I think my sock is turning out too small

So I am making socks for my dad, because he made me this cool thing to slip my socks in progress into while they are in my school bag. I had my mom measure his feet, swatched in the round with my yarn and everything, and I think the circumference might be too tight. I've already finished the gusset decreases and done an inch or two of the foot. My dad doesn't live in the same state, so I can't have him try it on, but my husband's feet are just a tad bigger around than my dad's (1/4") and I had him try it on. He had trouble getting the sock over his heel, but once the heel was in place, it didn't feel uncomfortably tight. So, do you think I should frog and start over? Can I block some more width out of them? I was so proud, they were going so quickly...

Sincs your DH, who you say has bigger feet, says they are comfortable they are probably fine. I would think part of the difficulty putting them on was b/c he had to be careful not to accidently loose a needle.

well, I put the live stitches on waste yarn before he tried it on, so it definitely wasn't the needles.

I imagine you would be fine. 1/4' can be quite a difference in a knitted item yk? I know when I try my socks on until I get quite a bit of the foot done trying it on is odd.

And yes you could block some extra width into them. The pair I did for DH were a tad small on the toe decreases so I blocked them and they came out perfectly.

I am so jealous of your needle holder. I have that saved on my computer from when you first posted it.

So how would I go about blocking it a little wider?

We got the idea from here. I really wanted one, but $30 to a broke college student is a lot of money. Mine is square-ish, because he doesn't have a lathe, and the cap sticks on with a little magnet, because the tools for the screw cap are kinda specialized too, but it works like a charm!

All I did was pin more up and down than side to side (lengths). I really only had to focus on the toe portion so I got it shaped how I liked, pinned down parts, and then worked on pulling the top and bottom (of the toe) and then readjusted the rest of the sock to look proportinate. Clear as mud?
