need studies/expert opinions on pastured vs. grain-fed cattle

I'm having a "discussion" with someone about grain-fed vs. pastured meats. I need some links to studies or expert opinions (ie Mary Enig or someone with credentials, Sally Fallon doesn't count!) on 1) the damage grain does to cattle's stomaches and overall health, 2) fatty-acid profiles of grain fed vs. pastured meat, and 3) health problems caused by excess omega 6's. Please help! I checked the WAPF website and didn't find anything I could use.

Mother Earth News has a pretty good article this month about beef:

It would be a good place to start and has a lot of references.

I put up a graph that has the data from a grass/grain beef study.

Omnivore's Dilemna by Michael Pollan - NY Times bestseller. It's an excellent book by an awesome journalist. Incredibly well researched! The first section is on the affects of corn on our diet. He actually buys a steer and follows it from it's birth to another state to the feedlot and to the door of the slaughterhouse (where they wouldn't let him in). He tells all about how corn makes them sick and how they are fed 50 lb bags of antibiotics (and cow fat) mixed in with their food. Can't recommend the book highly enough.

Try www.eatwild.com . They have a bunch of info about grain vs. grass, like actual science.

Power Steer, by Michael Pollan. A section of The Omnivore's Dilemma was based on his research for this article.

I am completing my Doctoral degree in Natural Medicine/Holistic Nutrition, so hopefully what I share should count for something. I believe I really did my homework on the Grass vs. Grain, even before seeking more professional credentials and I truly cannot say enough in a quick post. Please feel free to contact me and in the meantime, check out. www.mercola.com and put in "grass fed beef" into Dr. Mercola's search box. You'll be impressed. Lastly, if you do not have grass-fed beef available to you, I highly recommend you consider purchasing Montana Legend's grass-fed beef at wholesale (conveniently delivers to your door). I'd be glad to give you the scoop on Montana Legend and how to obtain their beef. Best of luck with your "discussion" and God bless you!! (I posted a new thread on Advantages to Grass Fed Beef. Perhaps that post may help you with your discussion).

: I just finished this for my book club. The beginning is a little slow, but once you get into the section about his steer in the feed lot, it is really a great read and very informative. Not a lot of "preaching" about the right choice, just lots of information for the reader to use to make their own food decisions.

There are several universities who have studied this recently. Seems like Texas A&M and Michigan State Univ. have both studied this. Not sure how to get hold of them, though.
