I'll try to be brief w/a complicated situation. My husband has been dealing with thyroid problems & high blood pressure probs. He's been switching docs from naturo to conventional & not feeling like he's getting the right treatment. His mom died in 2006 (she was very sick for awhile) and ever since then, he has seemed like a different person, which is understandable (I miss her a lot, too). Depression runs in their family, but no one speaks of it, just know that his mom was on med. My husband's mental & physical health has been deteriorating pretty quickly & he's been definitely shutting down interest in his cycling and friends. I've been taking care of him & setting up appts and researching things, trying to be okay that he doesn't spend time at home, encouraging him to see a therapist, etc. Then, last week, he says that he doesn't think that he loves me anymore; doesn't think he wants to be married to me anymore (we've been married for over 19 yrs & a couple for 24 yrs); that he is romantically involved with someone else (& yes, this is true & not him just being mean) & that he feels chemistry with this other girl. I didn't see this coming & still can't fully understand it. I'm posting here because I told him that we need to get his health in order. I want to know if anyone knows what natural & conventional meds work well with hypothyroidism & high blood pressure. I want to know from people who suffer from anxiety and depression if this ditching the family is normal & common. He says that his skin is all prickly and that he can't breathe & that he feels like he's going crazy. He has these chest muscle spasms that he can't seem to control. I thought it was an affect of his meds, but I can't find anything in either his thyroid (levothyroxine) nor his blood pressure med (Benicar HCT) that lists that, so I think he's got something else (anxiety/depression) going on that needs to be addressed. He said that he can't handle the responsiblity of us anymore and feels numb to me. He said he thought he could do the "kid thing" but doesn't think so anymore. I'm trying to understand this from his mental health area, because this all doesn't make sense (I've also posted on the SN board & single mamas board) to get a better grasp. Any help in understanding anxiety/depression & what meds work is appreciated. (am sorry this is a long posting)

I can't help too much with any of that, but you should go read through and post to the big thyroid thread in the main healing and Health forum. There's lots of smart women there who can talk to you about some of your husband's health issues. I do know that depression is a symptom of thyroid problems.
s again. Keep posting, we're here for you!~Julia

I have hyperthyroidism, well Graves disease. I just found out and getting treatment to slow down the thyroid production, and a beta blocker for my high heart rate. The symptoms of Graves/hyperthyroid are similar to anxiety, and I take meds for anxiety. I have also delt with depression, and am diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. I don't have an answer for you, but now that I'm on meds for my thyroid, I'm hoping to see if this controls some of the other issues I have. Good luck to you and you DH.
