gooey stuff when I soak beans?!

Thread Starter
I soaked my beans (pinto's) the other day, I left them for 24 hours and there was lots of gooey stuff at the top. it was slimey and icky. it was clear though. It smelled a tiny bit fermented, but after I rinsed the beans thoroughly they were just fine, I slow cooke dthem overnight and they turned out fantastic. Im wondering if the gooey stuff is stuff that needs to come out? perhaps soaking for 24 hours is a good thing? I never get that if I soak them over night.

any comments?

I make beans every week. I soak them 24 hours w/ lemon juice on the counter. I never get the gooey stuff. I just get some bubbles and the fermented smell.

Do you wash the beans 1st?
