What to do with the placenta in the fridge???

It probably sounds silly, but I gave birth 6 weeks ago and still have the placenta frozen in the fridge. What am I supposed to do with it????

I don't have the heart to throw it in the garbage.
I don't have a backyard to burry it.
I find the idea of eating it gross (like eating myself or something)

So what am I supposed to do with it????

do you have a CBE you are friends with?

I love donated placentas! great for demonstrations, and good for the garden afterward

Um, I still have mine in the freezer from a 10-3 birth last year. I'm waiting to plant it in our yard when we buy a house late spring/early summer. I'm not sure DH knows it's there, b/c if he did I'm sure that it would "vanish."

Placentas are a great educational tool. I still have mine in the freezer from when DS was born 14 months ago.

Keep it frozen until you have a yard? Mine is still in my freezer too.

What exactly will a CBE do with my frozen placenta? Show it in a class?

^ Yup!

In the wonderful "Babycatcher" by Peggy Vincent, she tells a great tale of a fellow midwife and CBE, who often kept placentas for classes in her freezer. One fine day, this friend had one ready to go to a class, laid out on a baking sheet and carefully wrapped in aluminum foil.

Alas, she also had a hungry teenage son.

She came home to a horrific stench emanating from the kitchen, and asked hungry teen son what on earth he was cooking. He opened up the foil to show her what he thought had been a frozen pizza . . .

So just think of the education AND the precious memories you could provide!
