Any DEMs out there with malpractice insurance?

This was a recent discussion at a study group of mine, and none of the midwives in our area seem to carry it. CPMs are licensed here in NJ, and in all honesty, I cannot imagine practicing without it. In the past I really believed that the relationship we have with clients, the responsibility our clients take for their own births and the lack of monetary incentive would prevent law suits. I now know that this is not the case. Do any of you have malpractice insurance, and if so, could you share some info on going about finding coverage?

Almost all DEMs in washington carry malpractice. Because coverage is mandated in most situations in state law, and no insurer was offering it, the state set up a risk-pool to allow midwives to obtain the neccesary coverage. I think every DEM is getting insurance through that pool. CNM's doing home births have other options available to them.

Here in VT the LMs do not have malpractice and the state has not required it. So far, we have not had any problems.
