hiccups?

I'm 38 and a half weeks and I've been noticing a decrease in the baby's hiccups. The baby use to get them a few times a day and I just realized I haven't felt any hiccups in a day or two, but still plenty of movement.

What gives?

My baby doesn't get hiccups very often, either. I don't know why. He/she has never been a big hiccuper anyway... I figure the baby will hiccup exactly as much as s/he needs to!

Mine hasn't had his daily hiccups for about a week now.

One theory of pre-natal hiccups is that they prepare the lungs and diaphragm for birth. I was thinking that once those two bits are warmed up and ready, it would make sense that the baby doesn't need to "practice" anymore.

But the heck do I know?

Yup, me too. My girl used to get them 2-3 times a day but not nearly as much. Perhaps that's a sign of impending labor, when they are done practicing breathing .

I am having the exact same thing. I'm 38.5 weeks, and the baby was hiccuping quite a bit (at least once or twice a day for about 5 minutes each time). However, in the last week I haven't felt any hiccups. Movement has decreased some too, though. However, I wonder if the change in movement has more to do with the change in position. The baby was lying with its back on my right side, head down. Now its back is out toward my belly button, with arms and legs against my back. So, maybe it is kicking but I just can't feel it?

Anyway, I'm with you on the no hiccups.
