Bathfitters?

So.. I'm really, really sick of our tub. Well, not the tub specifically, but the caulking and the grout and all that junk. I can never get the grout clean, and it just kind of grosses me out. I end up using heavy-duty cleaners, which I don't like doing, and it's still not clean enough.

In our old condo, we had one of those one-piece bath thingies, and it was *so* nice to clean. I've seen ads for Bathfitters, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them (or with that kind of product in general). I have no idea how much they generally cost, and I don't want to have someone out for an estimate if it's definitely out of our price range.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

James and I were just talking about this this morning. Our tile has started growing mold around the caulking!! EWWW!! We have redone it a few times and it just seems to wear away. So were just thinking of getting those bathtub surrounds thats are just one sheet for each wall. I'm not sure if its the same thing you mentioned or not, but I know you can get them at Lowes for a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks! I'll look into it. The tub is actually fine, it's just the tile/grout/caulking.

I redid the caulking a little over a year ago and it lasted all this time, guess I did a pretty good job. I didn't feel up to it again, though, and asked my husband to do it in December. He screwed it up once, removed it all and tried the caulking tape, that didn't stick, he removed that and did it again, and missed a spot : and it's really sloppy. I'm really aggravated.

What I'm talking about is where the tub and shower walls are all one piece, so there is *no* caulking whatsoever, except along the floor and the top/side edges where the walls are all one piece. It was sort of a pain in our condo because the walls stopped about a foot from the ceiling, and the rest of the wall was just regular drywall. We were constantly having to wipe things down to prevent/curb mold. Our current tub/shower is tile from the edge of the tub all the way to the top, and even the ceiling is tiled. So I think the one thing that I didn't like about the way we had it before would be resolved with the setup now. Our tiles and grout at the top look great.

The problem with bathfitters and anything where they just put something "over" your old one is (besides beind soooo expensive) the mold and mildew is still there!!! its just hidden. so if you are concerned about health problems of mold and mildew it does not fix that.

Yeah, I think we are talking about the same thing. Only our tile goes just a bit above the shower head, not all the way up.

If we redo ours we will take down all the tile and the drywall (old house) and even anything gross back there out. Then rebuild what we have to, hardy backer it, then put up the surrounds. That way we won't have all the grout to clean between the tiles, just the corners.

Our landlord replaced our tub/shower with one of those. He took the drywall down though, so the old modly tub was actually taken out first. I think that would be the best way to do it, so you aren't just covering up the problem, you know?
