Looking for Guest Bed Options

Thread Starter
I'm in need of ideas for guest sleeping options. Right now, we have a futon in our basement (partially finished) that we use for guests. We need more options. My sister has started to expand her family, so one futon is just not enough. My initial thought is to have my nieces/nephews share space with my kids. So I need something portable. Thoughts? Pictures and prices a plus. TIA!

Some of the newer inflatables are pretty darn comfortable and they collapse when not needed for guests.

MIL has a day bed with a trundle in her guest room. When she has one or two of my nieces/nephews staying at her place, they just use the day bed as is. When SIL brings her hubby (and/or any and all of their 4 kids), they pull out the trundle, which can be raised and locked together with the day bed to make a double bed. She also keeps fun sleeping bags and stuff for the kids when the whole family stays - she has a small place, so if they've got to sleep on the floor, might as well make it an adventure.

We've had up to 5 guests at a time in our 2BR. We used the living room futon, the kid's double bed (they slept with us), and an air mattress. Also, kids can sleep on the floor! I know I slept on tons of floors when I was a kid. We have a tent in our basement that kids can "camp" in.

We sleep on an Aerobed when we visit my parents. It is very comfy.

We also have an Aerobed when guests come. My Mom would rather sleep on the Aerobed than sleep in DD's queen bed. They are very comfy and easy to store and set up. HTH

Another vote for the aerobed. It's in the $100/$125 range for a big one, depending (we have an elevated one, because of my mom and MIL's arthritis), but it's cheaper than a hideabed, inflates and deflates itself, and is very comfortable. And stores very compactly.

My Mom refuses to sleep in a sleeper sofa. My aunt & uncle complain about futons. IMO the best permanent option is a day bed & trundle (real mattresses).

My folks have an aerobed that they adore, although I've never slept on it.

We have an air mattress (about 5" thick) for camping and it's like a water bed, one person moves, everyone feels it. I don't know if aerobeds have chambers to minimize this.

We have a really nice futon in one room and an inflatable air mattress (I like Coleman's flocked top style for just adults, but it's not so hot for co-sleeping with wee ones because of the dimples).

When we buy a bed for DS's room in the future, it will probably be a double futon on bottom with a twin bunk. That way there will be a couch for daily use/lounging about and two sleeping options for everyday/guests. The futon mattress will be a high quality one--cheap ones aren't worth sitting on.

Sadly, we have no really great options for tall visitors. My tall visitors usually choose to sleep on the queen size air mattress--askew/akimbo.

When I was growing up, I had a full bed. My brother had a twin and a lofted twin. When we had company, they either took my parents' room or my room. I got to go sleep on my brother's lofted bed. And my parents or the guests were in my room. If we had more guests, my parents took the hide-a-bed downstairs. We also had cots and optional space out in the RV. I don't think we ever made anyone bed down in the boat.

We have a queen sleeper coach and an oversized chair that is a twin sleeper in our playroom/guest space. We also have a queen airbed. I always keep the sheets and cover on it when I deflate it so its ready for next use.
