My sister is going to her backup OB appointment tomorrow. She's planning a VBA2C in March and she has a feeling he will bring out the good ol "Do you understand the risks?" line of talking to her. She wants to know of the stats for utuerine rupture in a non c-sectioned mom from inducement so that when he tries to pull the wool over her eyes she can whip it off and stick it to him. So does anyone have any quick info for me/her?

> .5 percent is the risk in a non-induced mother. Latest studies say that multiple cesarean is not an increased risk factor. She should just bean dip him with the information and keep saying that she will be vbac-ing unless there is a clear indication in labor of a problem.
The ICAN website has the actual studies if she wants to tote them with her.

Be sure that she gets him to state the additional risks of repeat c-sections...

That's her plan. When he brings it up she plans on saying, "Yes I do, do you? Also do you know the risks you give a mother by inducing her....etc.?" She does't think he'll be an issue but she's had so many people "inform" her of the "risks" in the last couple weeks that she's just tired of it and wants to shut at least one person up.

Here's the lowdown on a recent study of the risks of multiple VBACs vs multiple c/s. Interesting stuff. I think most of us knew this already, but it's nice to have the study backing it up.
http://tinacassidy.blogspot.com/ This blog has the summary, I'm sure you could find the actual study somewhere as well.

A word of advice for your sister too...
I don't think much is accomplished by walking in the door with a confrontational attitude. If she is informed and lets the doc know that she's making an informed decision and doesn't get pissy about it, she's much more likely to have a positive visit with the doctor. So all she really needs to say is, "I understand the risks and I'm comfortable with those odds. I would like to sign the informed consent document to VBAC now, please."
If the doctor throws a bunch of alarmist fear-mongering concerns at her, she simply needs to say that she understands the risks and wants to have a VBAC anyway. It never hurts to bring in hard copies of some of the scientific articles with stats if she feels it's necessary.

She's not going in armed for confrontation. This is her regular OB. She uses him when she decides she needs to as opposed to a midwife. He was her dr. for her 2 csection. She knows what tomorrow will entail with him is all.
I'll give her that link but she wants to know more specifically of inducing a mother who HASN'T been csectioned. To show that it's not any less of a risk yk?
