Anyone ever had a booth at a bazaar?

I thought about posting this in TAO, but figured it would be a better fit here.

I have a little online store, selling a variety of items, but right now I'm concentrating on two particular categories (play food and Scrubcloths). I have an opportunity to get a booth at a bazaar at the end of April. The bazaar is part of a "convention" of sorts, where people from a few states away as well as a good portion of in-state people will come. 99.9% of these people will be women, mostly retired women.

I have a few other "tasks" on my to-do list between now and then, and may not be able to take a stock to the bazaar, but instead would take samples and have people order items and then I'd ship to them. Alternatively, I could do a stock of just the Scrubcloths and people could take those with them, and have people order the play food. Paypal has a "virtual terminal" for credit card orders, so if people want to pay by CC then I do have that option (making sure I get a machine thing that takes an impression of the card to cut down on typos, etc.).

Another thought I had is appealing to the audience. I've been to this same bazaar before, but as a shopper. Most of the booths are costume jewelry and glitzy clothes. The ones that are different seem to attract a few more inquirers and seem to be more memorable. And even if I don't have any sales, I hope to at least get my name out there. There will be several hundred people at this convention and the booth price is reasonable.

Right now, I don't have any other details other than the price or the date. The person handling it will be getting more details to me later, but if I need to plan on taking an inventory, then I should start those plans now, so I can maximize my manufacturing time.

I really want to do this. Anyone have any thoughts for me?

Thanks,
Andrea

I have done bazaars and craft shows and the best advice I can give you is to have a lot of stock. Most people want to make a purchase and take it home with them, especially when you consider that these are pretty much all impulse busy. No one comes to a craft show or bazaar actually *needing* something. Also, having CC ability is huge. I never did, and tons of people would have spent more if I'd been able to take credit cards.

i have done a few of these too. I also second having lots of stock and having it displayed well. It makes you look professional. I also usually decided based on price of the booth. I never did great so i decided that I wouldnt go to any little craft fairs that cost for that $50. If it was a big one, i would take that into consideration. good luck.
