I have one for sale if anyone you know is interested. I purchased it last year and have barely used it. There are a couple of markings in the first module. I am not going to certify. PM me if you are interested. Thanks,
Jamie

Hi, I'm actually just curious, because i've been planning using ALACE for CBE training, but i saw your post and I'm kinda confused...so if I buy a "used" manual how does that work?? I don't know if I'm making any sense!! Would I just call up ALACE and say that I want to do the training, but I already have a manual? Do you know what they will then charge?? I;'m thinking maybe I haven't been paying as much attention as I should!!

Well,thanks! Cat

Still doing Trainings?

Is ALACE still doing trainings? I ask b/c I was set to take a doula training in OH and it was canceled. I was told that the org is having admin/staffing issues and not doing anymore trainings for the time being........

???

Words from an ALACE who's who

I have been trying to get in contact with ALACE for over 3 weeks now. I attended a labor assistant workshop several years ago and signed up for their CBE program but never completed my certifications and then let my membership lapse. I am now in a position to begin again so I have been trying to get in touch with someone who can help me. Nothing. Nada. Oh, I did receive an email saying that Jemma Boyle would be in touch very soon - they have been remodeling?

Well after some searching today I found this thread in a yahoogroups for ALACE CBE's

I did NOT post to this group because I am not a CURRENT ALACE member. However, the post I linked above is from Randi Bigelow who is Director of Childbirth Educator Training.

I've decided to sit back (for just a bit) and see what happens. I can't wait forever, but it's nice to know that I'm not the only frustrated one out there.

Doing Childbirth International Program Now

I was super disappointed to miss the ALACE training, but enrolled in Childbirth International's program instead.

To follow up, I plan to do a holistic doula training and also some training with ICTC to round out the academia.

I am mostly happy with my decision - looking at it like an opportunity to pick up even more skills and to be more rounded.

I *do* hope ALACE gets up and running though - a great looking program!

ALACE is having some staffing issues right now. They were closed for a few weeks but are open again, it is just taking them a while to catch up.

Pretty sure that link should be removed, I may be wrong but it seems to violate MDC's user agreement.

But ALACE is fine.

to the OP: from my limited understanding, you can certify with the "used" manual. YOu'd simply have to become a member before you can take your certifying exam.

Whoops!! Sorry if that link is not supposed to be there. I'll go back and reread the user agreement. If I offended anyone I apologize

I thought the rule was that you can't post a link to another discussion for the purpose of getting people to go there and join in.

well, like I said I don't know if it is or isn't. But I do know (or thought) that you can't post links to other discussion boards. Thats actually a link to a PRIVATE, members only one. The person who posted it knows that.

The link doesn't come up in any searches that I have done.

I'm pretty sure the link was emailed off list to someone who posted it here.: I don't think that's right.

I pay for my membership and one of the perks is the private list.

Actually anyone can read the archives of the ALACE Yahoogroup, you just need to be a member to post and view the files, member list, etc. But even non yahoo members can read the discussions.

This is what I know...

I thought that since I am the above stated individual that I should share what I actually DID know when I posted the link. I don't want people to assume that I was trying to be sneaky.

I posted the link from a list that is actually a public list in the sense that anyone can read it. After searching for some time to find out the status of ALACE, I was ecstatic to find out what was going on from a good source. I just wanted to share my knowledge with others who have been frustrated by their attempts to contact ALACE as well.

Now to let you know what I have found out since the following was posted:

I read the MDC User agreement and it states:

You may post:

* A link directing readers to a discussion or article
I hope the air is cleared now since I have posted what I knew at the time of the post and what I have learned since I posted the link.

It is supposed to be set to private. It is being looked into by someone in the ALACE office now. So, I am assuming they will fix it, and it'll be private soon.

I apologize for not responding to this thread after I wrote it initially. I had gotten a bunch of pm's for the manual and didn't realize anyone was actually writing to the thread.
When I first posted this thread I had no idea that Alace was going thru some changes. As soon as I found out, anyone that pm'd me about the manual was told that I was holding onto it for now until things were settled with alace. I wouldn't want to sell a manual when there are changes happening with an organization. So anyways, the manual is not for sale currently. But hopefully thing will be cleared up with alace soon and I will be able to sell it at a discount. And yes, you can use a used manual. All you have to do is pay the $50 cert. fee to alace to use the manual. I will be selling due to the fact that I do not have time for anything else but my two small children right now. It turns out I was not disciplined enough to do an at home study course, while juggling the rest of my life.
As far as the changes go with Alace, I believe that they are just like any other organization that from time to time has to change, modify and improve how they do things. That is what they are going thru right now. I believe they might be getting some new staff as well as potentially revamping their doula training course. I am very sorry it is taking so long for some of you to be contacted by them. That is very frustrating and I have delt with that myself. But I believe with the changes, that will improve as well. As far as we are told from the Alace office, they have been around for 30 years, and plan on being around for another 30.
I hope this helps some of the confusion. I do not work for alace, btw. But I have trained as a doula with them and someday hope to be able to do the CBE course, but right now my life is much to busy.
