Wool-Ease question (the other thread is empty)

Gah! Stupid internet.

Ok can you dye Wool-Ease? I am planning Christmas knitting (lots and lots of people) and am looking for a cheap yarn. I would love to use Cascade 220 superwash but the cheapest I can find so far is 9.80 a hank and I seriously need a lot (the list so far is JUST immediate family and I'm to 42...not counting my own family Yes the list is open to change ). Joanns has it on sale right now for 2.49 a skein (plus a discount if you get 8 or more) and I'd rather buy the white and dye it myself than have to figure out which colors to get. I've never used this yarn though, can anyone tell me what they thought about it. Or heck, can anyone show me a truely cheap superwash yarn? I know Knitpicks has it but it still seems too spendy for me (did I just admit how cheap I am? ). Can you get undyed superwash on a cone? That would be perfect! I just need a worsted weight yarn that can be washed but isn't nasty acrylic. I can't guarentee care of the items so I don't want to do a ton of wool or I'd just get a bunch of Paton's.

i don't think you can - but i could be totally wrong.

wool ease contains acrylic - so i think that would cause problems. it comes in a variety of colors though - so maybe you wouldn't have to die?

i know a lot of people frown at it, since it's not a pure yarn, but honestly, for hard wearing, low care yarn - it can't be beat. it's my favorite go to yarn for blankets and kiddie hats and scarves.

I would not list it as hardwearing. Well, not without looking like crap after being put through the dryer. I made a cute sweater for my son and he wore it multiple times a week and after not long all of the washing and drying made it look awful. And it was terribly splitty and a pain to work with. I have used the knitpicks and liked it much more (though still a little splitty.)

Well I googled worsted weight superwash yarn cone and there is tons! Cheapest seems to be Kona brand (it's DK weight but its best with the needle size I need which works). Has anyone used it?

I found some BFL ultra superwash too! Which would you get? I emailed the owner of the site (Wool2Dye4.com btw) and she already got back to me! The BFL ultra is a fingering weight. Dang it.

I'm pretty sure that since WoolEase is an acrylic, dying it at home will be next to impossible

There's always PF at 4.50 per skein wholesale... One of my yarn coops has a HA going on at the moment which might be an even cheaper option to get your hands on the Kona.

i've dyed super wash before, (though not on purpose) you could get a skein and see how it turns out. only the wool holds color, so the color you get is lighter, not as vibrant.
