Recipe for all-over body lotion/oil?

I use a natural lotion now, but would love to make my own from inexpensive, easily accessible ingredients (possible??). I'm used to a creamy lotion, which I'm guessing I'll have to give up... Anyone elixir-mixers out there? Thanks!

I don't know, but I'd love to find out too! I use coconut oil after showering on my legs, but my hands are really dry. Sometimes I just use shea butter, but I'd like to find a water based moisturizer.

Hi there,

I make my own body "lotion" based on the following ingredients:

- organic non-refined shea butter (30 %)
- organic extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil (30%)
- avocado oil (5-10 %)
- a bit of wheat germ oil (2-5%)
- a bit of cocoa butter (5%)
- aloe verae juice or gel (10-20%)

I heat the oils - just until they are completely fluid but NOT boiling and mix in the aloe vera when it has cooled a bit. The aloe vera won't always dissolve and blend completely but when you put in on your skin it will mix and make it much more easy to absorb and more moisturizing. Mix or stir once in a while when you cool it in the fridge. I store mine cold too.

You can add small amounts of rose hip oil, vitamin E oil, mango butter, hemp oil, jojoba or whatever you have.

I used to make a small batch before I got the right combination. The mix is quite light and has reduced wrinkles in my face, especially under my eyes. I use it on my entire body, on my face and lips and in the lengths of my hair.

take a look at this site for more great ideas: http://chagrinvalleysoapandcraft.com...r%20Selections

Hope this helps.

To keep my skin well-hydrated, I take a bath into which I put about a tablespoon of coconut oil. Smells yummy and my skin is very happy. No lotion works as well, because it is impossible to get it everywhere. In the bathtub the oil is dispersed everywhere, so all your skin gets some.

Your skin will thank you. This is way cheaper than using lotion, and it works better.

Good luck with whatever you try!

Not very creative, but just plain olive oil works wonders. It works well as a massage oil as your skin absorbs it.

Our little one had dry skin last winter after she was born. We started doing massage every second night and it went away - all because we used a little olive oil to massage her. It is a wonderful texture and your skin absorbs it really quickly. I'm sure you can add other stuff to it...

We use plain old Sweet Almond Oil in our family. You can add EO for fragrance.

oh, hurray! these are all great ideas. i loved that link, danishmom! that's a new idea for me.

i'm thinking i may just use one simple oil to test out. i've been using a bit of coconut oil here and there, but think i need a liquid oil for these cold months. thank you all!

A tablespoon of an oil in one bath? Our water down here is drying to the skin, this may be just the thing we could start doing.

My skin is so very much better since I have been doing this. Give it a try!

I just made some based on DanishMom's recipe.
I used coconut oil, almond oil, calendular, shea butter, sweet orange EO, ylang ylang EO and a touch of beeswax to hold everything together and don't need to worry about the lotion bars being melted!
This am, my skin is so so soft and nice.

Thanks for the recipe

Batsoup, have you found what you are looking for? I have not tried the butter whips yet, but I make the lotion from the recipe in The Soapmakers Companion by Susan Miller Cavitch. Also, the book by Donna Maria: Making aromatherapy creams and lotions has simpler recipes. Homemade lotion is really wonderful and I love it. If you try it, just be aware that at first, it will not look like what you expected. Just keep beating it and it will turn out! No need to give up the creaminess.
