Tile Painting

Today DD1 and I looked in a Paint Your Pottery type store. It looks like fun, but seems like something we should be able to do at home.

Could anyone give me tips for painting on tiles? Could I use some from the hardware store (Lowes)?

I'd also appreciate any other tips for doing pottery painting type crafts at home with kids.

These projects are fun to do at home. What I love about the pottery places though, is that they fire your pieces in a kiln. This gives them that beautiful durable glaze which makes these pieces safe to eat on and use.
