how many midwives did you interview?

Thread Starter
I'm 11 weeks along with my first. DH and I have interviewed two HB midwives and strongly prefer one.

Part of me thinks that we *should* interview more people before making our choice, however past experience has shown DH and I that our gut instinct is usually the right one & having too many options can muddle things.

What do you mammas thinK?

I interviewed only one. We had a good feeling with her so decided to go ahead. We didn't regret it and I had an amazing home water birth. Trust your instincts.

I spoke to three on the phone and had a follow-up interview with the one I clcked with the most. I adore her.

I interviewed 9 on the phone and met with 4 in person.

Only one - she came highly recommended by several mutual friends who had birthed with her, and when we met I felt that we had really good rapport.

I think the idea of interviewing several people makes good logical sense, but I'm really a "follow your heart & gut instincts" person, so once I found someone I liked, I was done looking.

The first time I got pregnant, there was only one homebirth midwife in the area. I did a preliminary appointment with her and LOVED her, so I guess it didn't really matter that she was my only option for a homebirth midwife. I think now there are a few other options around here, but I love the practice I used before too much to explore any other options.

I emailed 8 and interviewed 4. I had really strong gut feeling about the second one, but went on to interview the other 2 and really loved one of them as well. We had a tough time deciding between them but ended up picking the one I originally had a strong feeling about. That said, I do not regret interviewing all of them - I know for certain that I went with the best person and I have something to tell people who ask for midwife recommendations.

We interviewed 2.... we KNEW the 2nd one was for us based on how the interview went. Our personalities just *clicked* I had 2 more I planned to call, there was just no need.

One. : But I had been fantasizing about hiring her for years, since before we even moved here.

I did call another practice and get their info packet, and look at several online, but the birth trust wasn't really there in the way I was looking for.

Okay, let's try to post this yet again.......

I also believe in listening to your instincts. We interviewed three midwives. After the third interview, dh and I looked at each other and said, "I want her!" She was awesome. We just "clicked." She attended our last two births, and I think she was amazing.

One. I adored her from the beginning! She also had a great reputation so I didn't feel the need to keep searching.

Only one, but she came highly recommended and I adored her from the start. She was perfect doing my homebirth, and I'm really sad I have my final 6 week check-up with her tomorrow.
I think if I hadn't liked her so much I would have interviewed more.

We interviewed five. The first was hospital-based. It went okay but it wasn't what I wanted. The next one was perfect but we went on to interview the three others just in case (not sure in case of what...oh well...hindsight).

I "picked" my midwife before we actually interviewed her. I was wanting a midwife so badly so a friend of mine invited me to one of her prenatals and right then I knew I wanted her as my midwife.

The interview was just a formality for dh's sake. That midwife attended my 2nd and 3rd births.

I interviewed 4 midwives. I'm friends with most local midwives and felt kind of obligated to talk to each of them and consider them all. Ultimately I ended up hiring the first one we met with, who I had kind of anticipated hiring from the beginning anyway... but I was glad to have done the interviews and gone through all that before making the final decision. I'm really happy with my midwife although I think all of them were amazingly qualified and I'd be in great hands... I just went with the one, honestly, that my cats and husband responded to the best!

We interviewed 3...one was too far away, one we didn't click & one was just right. We felt like the 3 bears

one.. and I knew I didn't want anyone else!! Cancelled my other interviews the day I met with my midwife.

Five. The first was a CNM practice that was way more medical/timeline oriented than I was looking for. The second I liked a lot but she turned out to not be available around my EDD. The third was recommended by the second, but I didn't click with her. The fourth was only a phone interview, I was going to meet her but then she called back to say she was booked up. The fifth we met today and we both really like her, which is good because there doesn't seem to be anyone else around here.

Didn't have the option. There's only one collective that services my area.

One. She came HIGHLY recommended by my brother and his wife who had birthed with her before. They were right, she rocks.
