Not sure what's going on with DS (???)

Unfortunatley DS has been circumsized. I have posted my regret story - as I've had much guilt over it.
Anyhow, I don't know how long it's been there - maybe several weeks...but DS has a spot on his penis directly under where the urine comes out. It looks like a blister...it's slightly raised and reddish in color. It's not 'Real" noticable but I notice when bathing him. I keep him clean but I'm concerned as to what this may be. I'm considering taking him to his doctor just to be sure everything is OK.
It seems like it may be tender to him but otherwise seems to cause no problems. Does anyone know what this could be???

A kid I used to babysit had molluscum contagiosum on his penis. Sounds something like what you are describing...

A couple of my kids had molluscum cantagiosum a couple of years back. DS never had them on his penis, so I couldn't comment in that respect. But if it is molluscum, it is harmless and will eventually go away on its own (although we used palm d'arco and that seemed to help clear things up more quickly)...

These type of spots (if I am reading you correctly) are fairly common and appear to be no more than a clogged sebaceous gland. In other words, a pimple! They usually come up in a matter of hours and are filled with either a clear or whitish liquid. The blister covering may break leaving a spot that looks like an ulcer. They generally self resolve within a matter of days with no intervention at all.

I would recommend that you just watch it. If it becomes worse or the symptoms spread, a doctor's visit would be in order.

Thank you Sooooo much for the responses.

Another possibility is a meatal ulceration preceding meatal stenosis (scar tissue blockage) of the urinary opening so I'd keep an eye on it. Meatal stenosis would cause the urine stream to be under pressure, difficult urination, double or pinpoint stream, etc.

You can read more, here:

Meatal stenosis is one of circumcision's most common and perhaps underdiagnosed complications, effecting 9-10% of circumcised boys.

Oh No! I hope this isn't it...but I looked at the link and did some research on this and it sounds exactly like him. It has been there for quite awhile - several weeks, I guess. I don't know...I was waiting on it to go away. It's not getting worse and it's not getting better.
Does anyone know where I can find an actual picture of this to compare to DS. I had no luck looking online for pics.
If this is it, is there anything I can do? He doesn't have the double urine stream or anything, and no discomfort urinating.
For now, I am changing him more frequently and applying vasoline. I read on one of the websites the vasoline helps keep the urine off it - which causes further irritation.

This definitely sounds like meatal ulceration.

Well...through much searching I found a pic of meatal ulceration and sadly it looks like DS's. I'm 99% sure this is what he has. I think it's in the 'early' stages and hopefully the petroleum jelly will work.

I'm SO angry about this...I don't know if you all remember me posting on here a month ago. But DS had to have emergency surgery when he was 6weeks old. Due to a stomach valve problem. I didn't want to have him circed but DH was on the fence. Well, the emergency surgery happened so fast...he was diagnosed then into surgery. The doctor noticed he wasn't circed and said now's the time to do it due to him being under general anesthesia. There was So much pressure...from the doctor and the 3 residents. Everybody agreed that it was cleaner, healthier, ect. (What a Lie)!
I was not informed of risks...If I was I was too devasted and didn't hear a thing. All I know is my baby's sick and now he's being rushed to surgery.
I feel so sick to stomach...I was trying to put this behind me - now this a problem from the circ. Uggg...I'm just venting, I have so much frustration right now.
I'm just sick of parents 'not' being informed of the possible risks.

Sorry double post.

Being conned into a circumcsion sounds like a possible case for legal action. I would quietly get all your son't medical records and review them. I'd look for an informed consent form for the circumcsion procedure. If you didn't sign one, I would think you possibly have a legal case.

I know that healing your son is the first and foremost thought but I just want to plant the seed of this idea in your mind. The medical profession will only stop solicitating this "cosmetic" procedure once it becomes non lucritive to do so. Lawsuits are one way to achieve this.

I am so sorry for what you and your son has been through! I feel your frustration. I am positively sick at the fact that we were misled into circumcising our sons too and was overwhelmed with anger and guilt, as well. I immediately thought of legal action for you too. What you described above sounds so very wrong on so many levels.

maybe these links may help:
ARC~Attorneys for the Rights of the Child

NOCIRC National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers

You might think about contacting Marilyn Milos at NoCirc. When I was considering legal action because of my DS's buried penis, she referred me to some knowledgeable professionals.

Doctors Opposing Circumcisions

I spoke with John Geisheker with D.O.C. too and he shared some helpful info, both on legal matters and on circumcision & my son's condition.

No pressure though, I know how difficult this is for you, especially with worrying so much about your son. But I just wanted to share these links in case they might be helpful.

Oh Melissa, I'm sorry that you are going through this! With the further information you have provided, it does not sound like a clogged sebaceous gland and does sound like the beginings of meatal stenosis.

This condition was once blamed on mothers for not changing their babies diapers quickly enough resulting in ammonical dermatitis but more recent research has vindicated mothers and has put the blame on circumcision. In the circumcision procedure, the frenular artery is terminated and in many cases, this starves the frenular area and meatus (the urinary opening) of vital blood flow. That blood flow delivers healing oxygen to the area. With this oxygen starvation, irritation that normally would not be noticeable and would quickly heal, becomes a quite noticeable problem and is slow to heal if it heals at all. This slow healing process results in significant scar tissue building up over time. This scar tissue eventually results in meatal stenosis or a blocking of the urinary opening.

There are varying degrees of severity that can range from not noticeable to cases like yours that are red, angry and weepy. Eventually, your son will probably outgrow this but it may be years from now. I know of one mother who constantly battled this until her son was 7 years old when I lost contact with her.

The best treatment for him is to change his diapers quickly and apply a protective barrier such as Vaseline or other ointment to the area. This becomes a ticklish situation as he grows older and gains a sense of modesty and doesn't want Mama messing with his parts. He may also be hypersensitive to certain situations such as chlorinated swimming pool water and sea water that will cause a flare up of the symptoms. You'll just have to watch for the symptoms and try to determine what is causing them. I know the mother mentioned above had a backyard swimming pool and had to keep her son out of it. He really enjoyed the pool and was understandably distressed when he could no longer enjoy it. It being a permanent in-ground pool was a constant distraction for him and he much resented no longer being able to get in.

Watch for further developments in the symptoms. Those would be pain with urination and a fine, thin urine stream or not completely voiding. This can be misinterpreted as holding his urine in young children and can cause kidney or other urinary tract damage in severe cases. If these symptoms do appear, they will require another surgical procedure to correct. In more extreme cases, this procedure may need to be done multiple times over a period of years.
