trusting doppler readout

Those of you with a display on your doppler, do you trust the reading or do you count on your own? I have a cheap (sonatrax) doppler from ebay and it has a read out but i was just wondering how reliable those are. thanks

I have a Huntleigh with a display and I still count. It is usually pretty close. I have never had the doppler say 156 and I counted 120.

I count, too. If I'm monitoring continuously for some reason, I'll count the first 6+6+6+6, but mostly rely on the counter after that.

If it seems to sound close, and I dont have a second hand right in front of me - I just trust it. But I do time it out myself more often than not, and its been super close so I feel comfortable trusting it from time to time - plus I think an irregular heart tone is pretty easy to pick up just from listening.

What brands are you using?

I had a Sonotrax for a short time but I didn't pay attention to whether the display was accurate. I didn't care for the sound quality so I decided to trade it for a Huntleigh without FHR display (because it was $200 cheaper without display and it can be hard to see the display at Amish births anyway ).

I'd count the first few times you use it and see if it seems accurate...

I too have a sonotrax--and the display has never been reliable. That is, sometimes it is right-on....I just never know when it's going to be~~and it's often not right-on at all.

I like counting, anyway, makes me feel I really really know (and I do repetitive 5sec counts to get a sense of variability).
