Help!! How to best remove odor from rug

This past weekend we had a bit of a thaw...our dog therefore thought it would be a good idea to eat a bunch of grass in the yard and then come in and throw it up on the area rug in our living room. Having a dog and 2 cats it isn't like I haven't dealt with this kind of thing before, but my normal clean up routine did not work.
I cleaned it all up and then scrubbed with a bunch of Nature's Miracle. Then when it was stinky the next day, I switched to Bac-Out. I don't think the puke itself smelled like much when it first happened, but the spot now REEKS-I guess I would describe the smell as very strong "toe cheese". It is really gross. I have been lifting up the rug at night to try to get it to dry better (it is having trouble drying out).
Any suggestions?

The first thing I thought of was Bac-out but if that didn't work, I'm not sure what else to try. Maybe make a spray solution of tea tree oil and water or lavender oil and water and spray it on the rug (you might want to test a little area first to make sure it doesn't stain). And I saw this be used on Mythbusters and it actually worked!

If none of this works however, I would say with a little time and airing out, the smell will eventually fade!

Hope your dog is feeling better!!

Thanks for the reply! I just made the hydrogen peroxide/baking soda/dish soap solution that you linked to...it hasn't dried yet but already it seems to have completely eliminated the odor! I am definitley going to use that again!

Great! I'm glad it seems to be working!
