Am I odd for thinking this way?

I work in the NICU so I very rarely see a circumcised baby (almost never really). Obviously DS is intact.....When I see a baby that has been cut, I feel like I am seeing something almost pornographic. Like the glans is his personal piece of himself that should be seen by only a few choice people. I hate the way it looks and hate the way I feel seeing it.

You are definatly not odd for thinking that way. Now that I have ds I feel the same way when I see dh or pictures of circed men. it just looks so wrong and sad.

Looks exposed to me, too.

same here. . poor babies. poor men. *sigh*

I agree with you.

I feel the same way. Very very sad. Poor mutilated babies

You are absolutely not odd at all. I feel the same way.

The ancient Greeks thought the exact same thing. An exposed glans was rude.

Well you certainly should not feel odd for what you feel. But also understand its not exactly normal. Yeah baby boys have their gland completely covered, but something you may not realize since your not in many male locker rooms, but adult foreskins come in all lengths. And some guys foreskins do not cover the head fully even when soft.

But if your just talking about baby boys, and you are not exposed to circumcised penises, then your view is not odd at all.

Seeing a child's exposed glans seems so immodest to me. When my boys run around naked, it's okay because they seem "covered" to me. But when I see nephew running around naked, I feel like I'm supposed to turn away because that piece of him meant to be exposed upon arousal is just....there....looking back at me.

Yep, I feel the same way when I change a poor, circ'd baby's diaper :

I feel the same way too! DS has been starting to retract his foreskin pretty far lately, to the point where about half his glans is exposed. Every time I see the glans I want to look away because I feel like I'm intruding on something private. It is indeed a very weird feeling.

this is so very well said. it's really disturbing isn't it? The only odd thing I see, is injuring a newborn's healthy natural penis so that it is a clone of his mutilated peers/brothers/fathers/etc....

I have somehow come to think of intact as a little boy's penis, and circ'ed as a man's penis. So if I see a naked circ'ed little boy, it seems very odd to me because why does this little boy have a grownup penis? And then I feel really weird for looking...

Yes, as someone mentioned previously, in intact cultures seeing the glans is considered vulgar. I remember talking to someone once from Europe about this, and the said the first time in the US they saw a baby with an exposed glans they were absolutely sure that the child must have had some sort of disease or something.

When they learned what it was, they of course thought of how perverted and obscene it is to do that to a child (as well as immoral). It's very difficult for people outside the US to understand HOW and WHY a country that is supposedly "so advantaged" would condone such an atrocious act on their baby boys...

Hey, growing up here in the US I still don't get it myself.

Weird yes. I had asked a uncut guy this question. Because I felt that if I had a foreskin I would be much less shy in the locker room, because everything important is covered up.

BUT he explained to me that for him, his foreskin was just as private and personal as any part of his genitals. So I think our idea that it feels "weird" thats its exposed or that its more of a private area comes from growing up without really considering foreskins. So now we see them, and have this sudden illogical thought that it covers up something more private.

Perspective, I appreciate you sharing this one man's opinion but I don't think I'd let it form my opinion of all intact men's perspective on this. Genitals are private things in our culture in general.

I have not been to Europe but I know they have a more comfortable attitude regarding nudity and are far less uptight than Americans are. I have often wondered if this is due to the fact that the men are intact, and thus the most personal part of the penis, which is exposed in arousal (which is certainly a private matter) is covered.

Maybe some of our European members will chime in on this aspect.

If I am in an environment were being naked is both acceptable and feasible {temperature and culture allowing, in other words} then I will be.

I do not really feel that having your glans concealed really influences that but I suppose that being entirely bare would feel rather less protected. I imagine that if my glans was on display whenever I was naked I would feel like it was something less remarkable for it to be revealed.

I am glad that there is somewhere to hide.
