RE Consult Today, any suggetsions? Possible PCOS??

We have our consultation with an RE this morning and I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions, words of wisdom? Things to do/ ask, things not to do/ ask? What are the basic things the the RE will do? I guess I'm just wanting to know what to expect. I know it is all dependent on what the RE themselves are like and what's going on with me, but I just want to know what the first couple of steps are normally with a consult. I can't believe that the day is almost here! It seems like it's been so long, and yet so quick, yk? I'm wondering it the doc will want to jump right into things, or let more time pass so he can monitor my cycles himself. I'm bringing in all of my charts and history.

One other thing is that I am wondering if I might have PCOS. I know all of the websites say not to assume you have it, to talk to a dr. first. I have just been researching and noticed that I have several of the symprtoms of PCOS. Acne, manly hair growth, abdominal pain, and extremley irregular AF. Plus my mom was diagnosed with PCOS when she was 19. I'm 26 almost 27 and have always had all of the symptoms listed above, but have never had so much trouble getting pregnant and staying pregnant. I've had two mc's in the last 23 months and they just seem to have thrown my cycle off even more. I don't know what's going on, I guess that's why I need to see the RE.

With all of that said, I would truly appreciate any wisdom or helpful suggestions that anyone can send my way!! I'm se excited to take this next step, and yet so apprehensive! Thanks all!!

Someone else recommended this to me. Be sure to take charts if you are temping. Also, bring a little calendar & a notepad. The calendar to write down when you will need to take various tests. There may be a lot of them at very specific times.

appointment update!

Hello,

I just wanted to give you ladies an update on how my appointment went today. Well after getting lost and showing up 30 minutes late, we made it! Everyone there was really nice , especialy considering that I was so late. They took my vitals and then the dr. came in to talk with me. Originaly I was assigned to a male dr. but it turned out that I was able I see a woman! She was very nice and asked me a ton of questions! When do my first period start, had I ever been pregnant and how many times, family history of fertility problems. At first she had said that she would start out by doing the initial blood work, an HSG, and an SA in DH. But since I had a mc about 6 months ago and the fact that I have actualy conceived that we could go ahead and not do the HSG and SA. She just ordered the good work, and there were a lot of different things she was testing for! When I got down to the lab there were a total of 10 vile that they drew from me! I know a few of them were to see if I had any other symptoms of PCOS too.
The Dr. Also said that since my periods are so irregular that she would like to do a baseline u/s. Anyone ever had one done? She told me that when and if AF comes again to call and let them know so that the u/s canbe done the next day. She told me that if I don't start AF by end of Feb to call so that they can give me progesterone to induce AF. Anyone done that before?
So all in all I had a good visit and am just glad to get the ball rolling with this. I told DH on the way home that this is the first time on aost two years that I have actually looked forward to AF starting so we shall see how it goes. Thank you all for the support! I would love to hear from any of you and you experiences starting out with IF treatments!

Sounds like you were pleased with the appointment, I hope things work out for you soon!
When we were first ttc, my periods got all wacky, like 2-3 months apart and I did use the progesterone to try to get them more regular. The kind/dose I used would have been safe if I was actually pregnant (that was my worry, if one cycle AF didn't show because I was pregnant). I was also cutting back on caffeine and got MIGRAINES from the combo, ask about side effects.

I wonder about not doing the SA, it is possible that something has changed with your dh since last time you conceived. If it was me, I would get an SA done before I had any nasty tests done on myself, just to make sure all is well with him. (our IF is male factor and we didn't get him tested as soon as we should have).
good luck!!

Thank you crazyrunningmamma for the advice! After reading you reply and thinking about it, it probably would be a good thing just to get done. I really don't want to go through any unnessicary testing if at all possible. And knowing that it won't hurt my DH at all, if anything it would bring a smile to his face , I think it would be a good thing! Thank you!

The sperm analysis is quick, easy and cheap. At out clinic, the krueger strict analysis, which is the most specific sperm analysis was only 42$.
