Would you spend $2500 on a 1992 lexus? Pretend that you don't have kids to cart around everyday and you worked 35 miles from home.
I saw this thread, but I have no idea about cars. But I didn't want to leave you hanging!

Have you checked the Blue Book price on it?
How many miles are on it?

Well it's like $4700 I think.

Maybe. That is an old car. Can you do better - $$ wise? I would like to see something under 2000$ for that age range.

I'd want to know why that car costs what it does.

blue book, kelly book, body jobs? history, underbelly (look for rust and stuff like that) and where it has been?

how many owners, how much work or not work been done?

And all that is after the warranty and miles on it. YOu're coming to them, not vice versa. make them work for you. YOu don't by crap. YOu don't own crap.

yikes, typos aside...you go in like you own the place. You know interest rates and you know mark ups (b/c you researched it ahead of time). IF and only IF they can find you a deal, you might talk. Don't fog out on the monthly plan. They can make anything work there. YOu want the bottom line-interest plan over how many years. You don't want anything tacked on, no dealer incentive or buy in fluff crap, and you don't want to pay extra for floor mats (that is usually extra). You nail them down, hold them to it, and then think about signing.

Would you?

you got almost 3K. you gonna sink it ina beat up and out lexus of 15ish years old? Are you, now? Can I call you silly now or kick your butt on the turnstyle as you walk thru?

On that, not knowing body work or mileage? 1000 cash, no questions, and he covers his own dealer cut. You work from there.

That car isn't worth much. certainly not worth the dealer cut you're being demanded.

It's on Ebay, ($2500 is the BIN price) from what I read the car has great reveiws from long time owners. I got my first car n 2001 (91 Chevy Corsica) for $1800 and the car I drive now (95 Galant that I got for free) has a tranny that won't go into overdrive. Used cars here in Mo are expensive, people want $2000 for their old junkers. DH and I did pay $2400 in 2004 for his 1995 Firebird but due to a tree falling on it we sold it to my BIL.

I don't think I could buy car from ebay.

Why not? My attorney buys cars on eBay sometimes and has no problems with it, so what would the concern be?

I know what you mean about used cars in MO being expensive. I "lucked out" last year and found a 93 Buick LeSabre for $800. Several years ago I ended up with a 94Dodge Dynasty for $3000. My azzhole still hurts from that one...

You're so lucky. They had a Lasabre in Arkansas for $500 but it sold before I found the ad. I wouldn't mind getting one of those.

Lexus are great cars but they are gas hogs. I'd look for a honda or toyota that would get good gas mileage.

Good luck!!

I wouldn't buy it because the maintanance costs are so high. My sister had a Lexus for a couple years and it was newer than a 1992, but the parts and even oil changes were crazy expensive. We have a BMW and same story. I love my car, but I dread having any work done on it. The wiper blades are $100!! It's stupid.

Nice ride, though, very cushy..... until something breaks and then I miss my Honda with its $20 parts.

If you decide to get it, make sure you can have a dealer check it out and let you know what you're in for.

OK, just checked your link and that's a sweet ride, Sharlla. I wouldn't blame you if you caved and got it - you'd be a sporty little hot mama

THis is what I was going to say. Higher end cars have EXPENSIVE repairs. My neighbor has a bmw, and any time it goes in for any servicing, she pays a minimum of $1000.
That's not always true about higher end cars having more expensive repairs. I use to have a Mercedes and yeah when it went in for repairs it could be slightly more expensive but then it hardly needed repairing so it works out... I have a Saab now and the repair cost is very average, totally reasonable.

Yeah, I probably would go for it.
