necklace depicting breastfeeding....question

I stumbled upon a necklace I think is really beautiful. It has a picture that depicts a breastfeeding mother. Would it be silly/weird for me to wear it even though I don't yet have a baby to BF? I'm guessing most MDC mamas won't think I'm silly for wanting to wear it. Do you think average/mainstream people would find it odd? Not that that would stop me, just curious.

I don't think so. Most people would probably look at it more for it's symbolism (maternal love or something like that) than just a picture of a woman BFing. Does that make any sense?

Link please?

Well, I don't think it's strange! I really don't know how mainstream people would take it though. I'm guessing you would get a variety of opinions from mainstream people.

I'm not breastfeeding, but I have bfing stuff on the way (nursing necklace).

I'd love to see a link, too

Argh I had a post typed up and it got eaten. This isn't exactly it but it's similar..it's the same picture as the necklace I'm getting http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=8658337

Here is the search link where you can find several others with breastfeeding mothers.

Here is the full-sized original painting. I believe it is by Andrea Solario, painted in 1500, titled Madonna with Green Cushion

I should have mentioned earlier too that I'm feeling doubly silly because it is Madonna and Child, and I am strongly Agnostic lol. Still I think it is a beautiful and inspirational work of art. And I think it would be cool if anyone ever had anything negative to say about NIP (including not discretely) to point it out and talk about Jesus being breastfed, and NIP even with breast showing was acceptable and revered back that long ago.

You know, I was just looking at those on Etsy!

I'm not a nursing mama yet, either, and I don't think I would have a problem with it.

I wouldn't wear one like that (a portrait) because it's just not suited to my personal tastes (plus it kind of screams Catholic and I'm a non-Catholic Christian.)

Something more like this is more my speed: http://www.goddessgift.net/images/Pe...her_WEP757.jpg

I am, however, in love with this: http://www.attachmentscatalog.com/gifts/sculpt2.html She kind of looks like me with her great big badonkadonk butt! :

Now I just have to convince my husband that the $400 sewing machine I just got does not cover him for the gift giving occassion of "I squeezed your big headed baby out of my teeny tiny vajajay". :

honeybunch - that second one is making my nipples hurt just looking at it!

The way I look at it is this: art is art, and if it speaks to you, wear it in good health and joy.

I like the Cassatts she's used...

I think this is the one I would get http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=9270773 I think it is so sweet how the baby's arm is around the mommy and hand is on mommy's chin.
But I like the this one too that one of you pointed out: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction...ion_id=7361304

These are neat. I'd never seen anything like them before

I bought this one just before Christmas. http://www.winterchildjewellery.ca/m...and-child.html I'd been wanting to buy it at every craft fair I'd been to for 2 years, so I finally did. I love it. It's so pretty, simple, and meaningful.

I used to use the earth mother beads for nursing necklaces in the above link. They aren't exactly breastfeeding mums but I thought they were lovely.

I bought one a few years ago from attachmentscatalog.com I absolutely love it!!! I got sooo many compliments on it and whats really great is that from a distance it just looks like a heart so people would comment and then upon a closer look would realize what it was and I had the perfect conversation starter with moms and others about the benefits of breastfeeding and what a wonderful experience it is for both mother and baby!

I know which piece you're referring to. I have a different one, the more detailed one of a mom nursing her baby. From a distance, I had people mistake it for a frog.

I like the Madonna one...but then I am a Catholic!

I don't understand? Forgive my ignorance, hope you don't mind me asking...

Is it the artwork itself? The Renaissance-Era Roman Catholic depictions that scream Catholic, therefor are not your thing?

Or is it a religious preference to not acknowledge Mary? I understand non-Catholic Christians have a problem with our veneration of Mary, so to wear a necklace depicting her might not be copasetic with your views. No judgement, just asking! Do you think folks at your church might not appreciate you wearing it as it might be "too" Catholic. It's making me think about what people at my church might think about it, despite the fact that all religious art is to be revered, and any art is to be respected, or so that is what we are taught. I wonder though -- if someone in my own faith might take offense because they are trained to view breasts as sexual, and Mary as non-sexual.

Either way:
God Bless

Not odd at all, I actually have the first one you listed from Etsy. I'm atheist and love all nursing depictions.
The attachmentscatalog products are wonderful. I've sent a few as gifts and they've been well loved.

Good luck finding the right one for you.
