Heat with gas? How big is your bill. - Page 2

We buy our gas as needed so we don't have a monthly bill. We live in a small two bedroom house and average about $750/year for our kerosene. Our gas tank is outside so we have to buy the more expensive stuff or the gas could freeze. : <---I've been itching to use that guy in a post.

$185 for ~1500 sq ft., built in 1929 with original windows and poor insulation. And an old furnace, and gas water heater but electric everything else.

ETA: forgot to say, we keep our thermostat at 62 at night and 65 day.

This is us - but we have forced air heat. We do have storm windows, but they still seem pretty leaky. No attic or basement insulation. I keep the house at 70 when I'm home - maybe 65 at night. We both work all day so the house is around 65 when we aren't there. I totally need new windows. I'd dearly love ones that opened easily! Out of curiosity, about what do they cost? I think we have around 30 windows in the house!

We're on the budget plan. $125 a month that usually pays off in time for a $45 bill in August before we start in w/ $125 again.

Our house is about 3200 sq. ft. (that we heat, not counting basement) semi-detached brick w/ original windows & doors (covered in plastic of course) built in the late 1890's. We keep it at 68 during the day and 65 at night. Forced hot air. I don't know how old our furnace is. A bill for a very cold month w/o the budget plan would be about $350-$450.

Wow! I'm never complaining again! We have a 2500 sq. ft. home, I keep the thermostat around 71-72 degrees during the day and 60 degrees at night and our bill is around $160. I usually run our gas fireplace downstairs and the heat goes up where the thermostat is, so I think it doesn't come on as much. The fireplace keeps the downstairs nice and toasty, though.

We use the budget billing too and our gas bill is about $90 a month year round. We live in an all brick ranch - 2060 sq ft - built in 1982. We have natural gas heat and water heater. We keep the water heater at a scalding 130 degrees and the thermostat at 72 in the day and 71 at night. We reinsulated our attic completely a little bit at a time over the last few years and that made a huge difference for both our heat and elec bills this past year.

Oh - I forgot to mention - our furnace is only four years old, too.

Our gas bill was $120 for a 2850 sq ft home last month.
