We had a storm baby!

MW called yesterday early evening to ask if we were going to have the baby so we could figure out a way for her to get there (she doesn't have 4 wheel drive, has never needed it). I said no and went outside with DH and DS to help shovel our 13 inches of snow. Finished at 6:30 pm, started having really mild contractions at 8:00.

I started timing them at 8:30 and called the midwife when we realized they were 5 min apart and 1 min long, even though they were very mild and not really very painful at all. Called my mom, who has 4 wheel drive and snow tires. Called the MW again at 10:30 and DH went and pounded on the neighbor's door when we realized my mother was not going to make it in time (they have a jeep with 4 wheel drive).

MW left right away, picked up the birth assistant, and happened to follow a snow plow through our neighborhood. She arrived maybe 11:15 and came into the bathroom to check on me (I was in teh shower). I told her I was feeling pushy and DH went to help them get started setting up. He came back adn said they were moving fast. Maybe a minute later I stood up and caught the beginning edge of the bag of water and told DH to get the MW NOW.

I was confused and thought I was holding the baby's head somehow until the water broke and splatted on teh shower floor. Then DH helped me out of the shower and just made it inside the bedroom door and onto my hands and knees onto the floor. It took maybe 3 or 4 pushes and one minute later and the baby was out. He laid on the floor and looked completely stunned but had good color. I think if we had had time to have a birth pool, he maybe would have been born in the caul.

My mom arrived 10 min later and then DS woke up and was very excited to finally meet the baby.

It was really crazy, our first was an induction so I kept expecting labor to get more painful and couldn't believe it when it was over. Where did my transition go, LOL.

So the summary:
Lucien Xander
8 lbs 7 oz
19.75"
born 11:34 pm Feb 6
