Hi all, after having a "will I be pregnant forever?" meltdown on Monday, my babe decided to start to make his arrival, though it took 36 hours for him to really appear!!
Andrew Evan
born Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 6:35 am
9 pounds 1 oz.
21.5 inches
15.5 inch head!!
I'm still in the hospital, but feeling much better than yesterday. The first 28 hours I did without any drugs, until I completely hit the wall and couldn't go any further. Mr. big head Andrew was in a funky position and I had nothing left to get him to push him out, so I got an epidural and a couple hours rest. I got to labor in the waterpool a bunch, but didn't deliver there after I had the epidural, but that was ok. By 30+ hours, my midwives said that my uterus was so exhausted that it wasn't getting into a good ctx pattern, so they added some pit, which was ok but always a bit concerning to see if it caused any fetal distress. He made it through ok, no meconium, and I did deliver him vaginally. The mws also called in the backup ob, and he did a good job with the delivery, though I needed an episotomy and forceps at the end and I have a lovely 3rd deg tear besides. They and my doula said he's one of the few they know that really can use forceps skillfully, and once he got the head out, I was able to pull him out the rest of the way, which was very cool. They said that in most other situations, the ob would have made me get a c-s, so I'm glad I avoided that!
Soooo, not exactly what I had anticipated, but the end result was very worth it. For those of you still waiting, hang in there and good luck to you!!!
