eek! help with finger knitting!

hello all!
i'm in dire need of some quick finger knitting advice...making a hobby horse for ds' birthday--tomorrow!--and I need to get the reigns finished...
hmmm...
anyone know how to do the single strand finger knitting, where you pull the long piece of yarn through a loop???
i found one website with instructions but its not really getting my anywhere (which could be a whole other topic unto itself )

Can you crotchet?

Finger knitting is just a crotchet chain without the hook.

If all else fails, just braid something. I used one of the hundreds of yards of upholstery trim I had for the hobby horses I made.

I've been thinking that finger-knitting would be a neat project for my son's kindergarten class, but didn't know where to start.
I'll practice the method myself, and then tell my son's teacher my idea.

I learned when I was itty-bitty-bitty. My grandmother taught me to do that when I was 4, to keep me from getting in her hair while she was crocheting.
