This is my first year doing self employment taxes and I've been worried to death about being audited. But I got the "Your tax refund is scheduled to be direct deposited on February 8, 2008." message today Woo! And the way things have worked out, we have to stay an extra month, so I can pay off my van tomorrow! Woo!

Yay!! Though, don't jinx yourself by breathing too big a sigh of relief--I was audited in late-1998 for 1996!

Unfortunately, they have years to audit you. The fact that your refund has been processed doesn't mean you won't be audited.

Don't worry too much. We had to file self employment taxes for many years while I was doing daycare, and we did them ourselves.

As long as you don't have any big red flags (like a loss or strange huge expenses), your chances of being audited are very low.
