I don't know what's going on...help

Over the course of the past 6 months or so, I feel like I'm losing it. I'm "getting stupid". I forget how to spell (that has NEVER been a problem for me). I can't remember the simplest things. I've also been dizzy and having HORRIBLE headaches, but I don't know if that's related. It really bothers me. I was always a "smart kid" in school, but now I feel it slipping. I don't know what to do? Do I see a psychiatrist or do I start with my ND? I'm scared and confused.

Oh Eliza. I'd start with your ND or other primary doc. Could be something simple like anemia or a nutritional deficiency. Could be sleep deprivation or depression.

I miss you mama!

Eliza if you look in News and Current events you will see there has been a recent study to prove (cause moms saying it forever isn't good enough. Its only true if men study it.) that women loose memory while pregnant and nursing. Are you still taking your prenatels? I believe low Magnesium for example can cause dizziness.

I think I would start taking my prenatels if I had stopped and see a chiro about the headaches. Then maybe go see an ND to get a better idea of what could be wrong.

's Eliza...I was thinking the same thing as Korin...see an ND or primary care doc. Maybe start a food journal? so that if it is a nutritional issue you'll already have something to refer to. Are you getting enough protein?

My focus has definitely become jumbled after I had my 3rd...and I could probably used some cal/mag...for noise irritability...

Oh yes, good ol' sleep deprivation!

Keep us updated!

Thanks for all the hugs. I love having a community like this! I just don't get the support at home.
I've been taking my prenatals since I was pregnant with Loki.
When I first started with the headaches, I talked to my ND and she thought that I may be sensitive to gluten and to cut it out. I did that, the headaches didn't come as often, but when they did, they were bad. I just recently started eating it again and it doesn't seem to have made a difference.
I stopped taking my meds about 3 weeks ago and the only difference that I can tell with that is for some reason I have been having crazy muscle spasms and my hands shake, but again, i doubt that they are related.
I'll see a dr. My ND doesn't have authority to run tests (stupid insurance), but I'll see if Lucky's MD can do a blood test or something. Wish me luck.

Yeah, I would definitely get some blood work done, Eliza, but I also recommend Calcium, Omega 3 fish oils, and B vitamins. What kind of medication did you go off? Sometimes there are withdrawel effects. I experienced theses went I went of certain antidepressents and anxiety medication a long time ago

Good to see you here.
You are a part of this community and we miss you when you're not around!

you said you stopped taking meds three weeks ago. What meds? could this be part of the issue? and if you are detoxing from meds, having shakes and muscle spasms are totally normal.

I stopped taking my Zoloft, but all this stuff (minus the muscle stuff) came before that.
I bought some cal/mag today. Do I just take it according to the directions?

Mine says to take one up to three times a day. I take two twice a day. I read somewhere if you are deficient you need more to replenish your body. But hey that is just me.. I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV. (I see this all the time in the vax forum and thought it was cute)

Crude.. gotta pick up the kid from school.

Why did you stop taking Zoloft? Was it under DR supervision and slow? If not, you might want to start up again and wean off slowly.

As for the Cal/Mag, 800 mg of Mag is good (2 x Rec. Daily Value) - I got this from a nutrition book I read a few years back. Calcium is generally just peed out if you get more than you need, but there is a "too much" point. I don't know how much is too much though.

One of the B-combos along with Fish Oil is advisable.

If you have bloodwork done, make sure you have your thyroid and Vit D levels checked. While Vit D is easy to get from sunlight, you can still be deficient.

Headaches. Last summer I was getting the WORST headaches and nothing would help. The OB suggested sudefed. I thought he was nuts because I wasn't congested. Well, I decided it couldn't hurt, so I took it for 3 days. The headaches lessoned pretty quickly. I continued to take one pill in the mornings throughout my pregnancy and it did the trick. I would still be taking it if I weren't nursing a 6 week old.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time

Eliza,

The symptoms you describe sound related to candida, food allergies and/or hormone inbalance (including adrenal issues). I think a ND would be a good place to begin after you do some blood testing with the MD to rule out pathology. If you are feeling challenged with finances, the naturopathic college does take sliding scale patients.
I hope you find answers and know that just by seeking them, you are on the path to wellness.

I don't want to sound alarming, but I would also see a neurologist. I could share with you a deeply personal story that is currently affecting my life if you want to hear that began with similar symptoms. If you don't want to hear, I understand that too.

Eliza, If you do see a neurologist, PM me for a referral to a really amazing one who is also an osteopath, so more holistic. he is at St. V's. I would see a regular dr. first and do some basic blood work and then get a referral. It is true that with bad headaches/memory loss, an MRI could be in order. But remember, it is more likely to be something simple than something scary and complex. However, it is of course important to rule out the unusual things as well.

My "getting stupid", forgetting things, etc. turned out to completely fulfill the symptoms of ADD, except it was adult onset. I guess its caused by anxiety. Wellbutrin has saved me. (Although I'm still flakier than I'd like... I try to pass that off as having more responsibilities than when I was young and totally together.) I like(d) being smart! I feel for ya!

With the headaches and dizzyness, its different.

Just thought I'd throw my anecdote in there...

I'd see a general doc and go from there.
