Can I make half finished Longies into Shorties?

I have a pair of longies that are almost done but I ran out of yarn. I actually ordered more yarn but it is a different color. The weather is starting to turn warm here so I think my dd will get more wear of them if they are shorties.

So what should I do? I'm tempted to just take the needles out of the half finished leg and just start unraveling and then put the needles back in and finsih the cuff.

THey are picky pants by the way. I'm so afraid to start frogging in case I can't figure out how to get the needles back in. I'm using magic loop for the legs. THis was my first attempt at longies.

THanks

Sure! You can definitely make them shorties. I personally hate to frog my work back because to me it's very painstaking. I think in this case, it's worth it though. There's a video at knittinghelp.com that shows how to do it. Here's the link: http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitting-tips It's called "inserting needle into destination row before unraveling".
