21 month old with teeth problems, here's our story...

Hi. I am new to this particular area of the boards.

My dd is 21 months old now. Her first teeth erupted around 6 months old. Very soon after eruption, she developed what looked like a small pinhole right in the center of her front tooth. It wasn't even all the way in yet. I watched as this pinhole got larger and the enamel began chipping off of her tooth.

I did a lot of reading, both on here and other places, and have been brushing, using Oravive toothpaste, etc. I have not been as vigilant as I should have been, and her teeth have slowly gotten worse.

I will be posting pics this weekend, to document what they look like, but in describing them, they look as though they are simply wearing away. There are no cavities/dark spots near the gumline, but they teeth are eroding from the bottom up. In addition, one front tooth is chipped from a fall with a toy.

She now has three teeth in her mouth with enamal damage/decay. I have debated what to do, and have made some decisions based on what I have read.

I am going to continue to brush with oravive remineralizing toothpaste, and be vigilant about brushing EVERY night before bed. I am about to place an order at dentist.net, and am adding in some xylitol paste and recaldent. I am also ordering spiffy wipes for when we cannot brush.

As far as diet, I am going to try to cut down on the sugary stuff we eat, but I am honest when I say we are addicts in my house. This will be a gradual process.

I am going to wait three months doing this program, then follow up with more pictures. As long as there is no further damage/decay and no pain (right now nothing is hurting or sensitive, although the dentin IS exposed) we are going to take it three months at a time. If at any point she starts to experience pain and/or the damage reached her gumline, I plan to have them pulled. I am trying to at least get her through another 10 months, when I will have dental insurance.

Feel free to follow along, and offer any suggestions. I would prefer, however, to keep the discussion positive.

Thanks for letting me share!

Here is the first pic. Now.... I will say, this pic isn't totally accurate, as if you notice, she is drinking a chocolate yoohoo, so the spots look a little brown, which they usually don't.

Anyhow.... you can see the three top ones that are decayed, and how the teeth are just wearing away.

Again, my decision is made to use the oravive, recaldent, and xylitol for three months and further evaluate at that time. Please don't make posts telling me to take her to a dentist. I welcome any other natural, homeopathic suggestions.

Thanks,

Could you tell me where you're getting the stuff you're using for her teeth? Ds2 has horrible teeth problems, we've had the top 4 front teeth pulled. They were disappearing like your dd's but they were also very brown. He had a fever a few weeks ago & a very sore mouth that caused him to stop nursing for almost a week. I took a couple days off brushing because it hurt him so much, and when I started again his gums would bleed with even just a washcloth for 'brushing'.

Been trying to come up with ideas which are safe for such a young kid that might help. I'm testing making my own tooth powder but at the moment it's so nasty I wouldn't subject him to it. I was aslo considering making a mouthwash out of a combination of essential oils known for killing the germs in the mouth, but that's going to be pretty pricey initially.

I got everything from dentist.net. I also bought straight xylitol from the herbal shop near my house.
