Sleep positioner?

We have a co-sleeper and plan to have the baby in bed with us or right next to us for as long as we all can tollerate it (hopefully until our daughter decides she's ready for her own space). I keep seeing these sleep positioners at all the baby stores, any input? I can't see how they would really be necessary but is there something I'm missing??

You won't need it cosleeping, generally. However, I liked to swaddle DD and lay her on her side so the positioners were nice for that, especially if we weren't sleeping at the same time. She slept better on her side (it prevents the arms-flailing response to being on their backs...when they are on their backs they feel like they are falling).

I used one with my daughter since she turned out to be a side sleeper. Hated being on her back and with the positioner I wasn't as worried about her rolling to her tummy.

I have used a sleep positioner with all 3 of my kids especially when they are brand new. I just felt more secure with it there, and we do co-sleep too!

You can use receiving blankets rolled up for the same purpose. I would rotate which side my son would lay on and prop a rolled blanket under his back. Just another gadget, IMO.
