I have some lion chunky yarn that I'm never going to use. does anyone know where I can send it?

has anyone ever donated yarn to a nursing home?

I think a nursing home would be good. Also a school. Girls and Boys Club. Girl or Boy Scout Troop. Church youth group. You could add a few old needles, notions, and a favorite pattern and make it kind of a set to donate to an auction or raffle.

Yep, nursing homes are big. They'll take anything you have. I know some churches do group blankets and stuff too, maybe check around at a big church in your area.

Domestic Violence shelter. I manage one and I like being able to teach the women and teenaged girls how to crochet. I also make baby blankets for all of the children who stay there at mine, so it works for more than one project.

A friend of mine in Toronto has a teacher friend who started a knitting club for at-risk teens, figuring maybe two would come, and then something like 50 kids showed up. So she's always looking for supplies...PM me if you want details. It's not a registered charity or anything.

I've heard of similar programs at other inner-city schools, so you could check your area schools for something like that.

You could give it to schools. The art programs could always use yarn, maybe not for knitting, but for other artistic purposes.

I donated a huge amount of yarn to my daughters middle school, i had talked to one of the teachers who said they wanted to start a knitting group but didn't have yarn... I fixed that the very next day with two rubber maid tubs full of yarn I'd never use

2 yrs later, they are still using that yarn

I second the domestic violence shelter suggestion! If ever anyone needed to relax and take up a hobby, it's folks in a DV shelter!

Pat Catan's, don't know how widespread they are, collects yarn and finished objects for Warm Up America, and also for soldiers overseas.

Look up Warm Up America to see what other shops may be collecting so volunteers can crochet and knit blankets for people in shelters and nursing homes and hospice, and etc etc.
