interesting article...what do you think?

I think the doctor thing scarred him (rightly so!) combined with our cultural hangups about (human) milk and an inability to have an open mind to create that "ew, gross!" attitude. It'd be one thing to say "not for me"; it's another to say it's always gross, even for other people.

I don't understand the point of his article.

Do men want to be involved in their wives and children's lives? Well, learn to get over your squeamishness when it comes to breastmilk! Pretty silly thing to get worked up about if you look at the big picture! There are WAY nastier things out there!

Is he opposed to sampling milk from a filthy bovine? But the milk from his own dear wife is somehow gross?

I don't get the point of him sharing this experience. But I suppose the "take away" is that in bringing people into the fold, we don't want to "ick' them out and push them away, just because we are past our own hangups.

I bet he wouldn't sample milk from a filthy bovine...like drinking raw milk.

No he buys overly-processed, probably generic store-brand, white white white milk.

Just a silly attempt at humor.

Thanks for the article!

I'm pretty happy my hubby has been so supportive from breastfeeding to my vbac... he only "helped" me to help getting labor going, though!

My DH had to grow into his comfort level with tasting mommy milk. I when I first told him how sweet it was, he gave me an "ew....hunny, don't do that" response. After a few weeks he admitted he had a taste because it was on his finger. I asked him how it was, and he gave a chuckle and said "surprisingly awesome." Hee! I was so proud. And now he gets very enthusiastic for DS to drink the Yummy Mummy. :

I do admit, I laughed a couple times in this article (dad who used it in his coffee, the groovy doctor, the back seat) but then *poof* it had ended. I think it could have been a better article if he could articulate what was eating at him, and if it ended on a happier note. It's like he was he chose to watch the Superbowl rather than complete his sentiments before the deadline hit.

I think its pretty ODD that the Dr. TASTED her milk! I personally wouldnt care but most people would freak out!

I dont really think anything in that article is even true. What dr would lick someones breast milk? Nipple confusion and plugged ducts have nothing to do with one another, so how could you be confused as to which you are facing? I guess he is trying to be funny but I just think its kind of dumb.

I thought it was funny.

I didn't find it offensive...just kind of left me with an "okay, so?..." feeling. I also found his examples to be a little over the top. Funny but a little bit out there. I mean EBM in the coffee...okay. But a doctor that tastes the moms EBM and the "backseat guy"? Really? And if it is true, does this represent a great deal of the guys he knows or is it just a few extreme (to him) examples that stick out to him?

I suppose it could happen, maybe it did. But that is probably just those individual guys. I don't think those examples are indicative of a some sort of cultural "obsession" with BFing gone too far. Why didn't the partner of "backseat guy" just hand express...there are other ways to relive engorgement. I'm guessing maybe she and her husband were just into that sort of thing. If that is what he did... I doubt it was unwillingly.

So the guy isn't into putting his wife's BM in his coffee or nursing off of her to relieve her engorgement (is that what the "backseat guy" was doing?). Neither is my husband and he is VERY supportive of my BFing. He is all about CLW (more so than I actually) and will tell anyone and everyone how our daughter has benefited from it.

I guess his main point was he wasn't going to drink his wifes breast milk. Okay whatever...so don't. It doesn't mean it's gross and that we as a culture have become way too obsessed with BFing and our male partners involvement in it.

I'm with everyone else: was their a POINT? I mean other than vague attempts at humor?

I do have to laugh though, and provide more humor for you all:

I clicked on the Breastmilk Recipes link at the bottom of the page and said it aloud as I did, I guess just a bit surprised and curious to see what I would find -- to which my eldest (8yo dd) and my DH both just about sang the perfect "ewwwwwww" in harmony! LOL What guys? You dont want cottage cheese made from MY milk? : Dont make me break out my lactivist on you! LOL

I want to try the soap, that sounds cool!

My husband used to make silly jokes about using my milk in his cereal and coffee. When I was pumping he used to tell me I better make enough for as well. (in a joking way)

One day I finally gave him a bottle and said "Here have at it, it's all yours". He just couldn't bring himself to do it. Haha...all talk.

He has tried a few drops of it though, because he told me he would. He said it tasted sweet and he could see why DD liked it, but he still couldn't get himself to take a gulp of it. I can understand that I guess.

I honestly have never tasted my own milk. I don't think it's gross, but I have never liked cows milk. Like I will violently puke if I ingest it. (It's not a digestion thing...I just don't like it) I know that BM is not cows milk...but I'm just afraid I'll have a similar reaction.

It's quite good, very sweet. Doesn't taste at all like "cow." I haven't had a big gulp though. I was thinking of trying it in my coffee. I just wonder if it wont be better than mocha mix and wont bother my LO.

It sounds like a guy just talking about his experiences with fatherhood in a humorous way. And he's NOT saying that "breastmilk is always gross" he's just saying that HE found these situations uncomfortable.

Mastitis can sometimes cause the milk to have a salty taste - perhaps he was checking for that?
