Positive flying experience

I flew from Melbourne, FL to Baltimore, MD and back this weekend with DH and 5 month old DS on USA 3000 Airlines. I knew DS would need to nurse a lot because we were flying in the evening when he's generally camped out at the breast for the long haul. Even though I read up on my rights and am a pretty relaxed, confident NIP-er, I was still a little nervous about someone giving me trouble on one of the flights. The thought of something happening up in the air just made me nervous. Anyway, I am happy to announce that I had a very positive experience. The flight crew was really nice to my whole family. On the way to MD, I know they were aware I was nursing and didn't treat me any differently or avoid interacting with me. On our way off the plane, they even commented how cute and "good" my son had been.

On our way back home, it was the same flight crew and they remembered us and complimented and interacted with my son. One of the flight attendants asked me how old he was and it turned out she has a daughter just 10 days younger. She said "I saw you nursing him. I'm breastfeeding too!" We had a lovely conversation about how it means she has to pump all the time when she's flying and it's getting difficult for her. She would much rather be home to nurse her DD instead of dealing with the pumping, so she's already reduced her hours. Apparently her supervisors offered her a leave of absence for up to 9 months and she's thinking of taking it. I didn't ask her the details, but it sounded like a positive thing... she'd be able to be home with her DD and then come back to work whenever she's ready.

Anyway, I mostly just wanted to post a positive NIP/flying experience and say that this airline treated me well and it seems like they're treating their nursing mom employee well also.

Glad to hear it!

That's great to hear! It tends to be fairly supportive of breastfeeding where we are in Canada, but I agree, the idea of conflict when flying is frightening!

Glad you had a wonderful experience and that your little one seemed to do well

That's great! I am flying to TX today with my almost 6 month old. It is encouraging to hear a positive experience.
