Obscure 45's from the 70's

Guess who's been watching too much VH1. If you're old enough, what songs do you remember from your life's soundtrack in the seventies? Bonus points for listing the 45's you had.

3 big ones for me

The Night Chicago Died
That song that went "Cherokee people, cherokee tribe, so proud to live, so proud to die..."
And I'm wondering if anyone else ever heard the song DOA-don't know who does it, but in second grade we used to play it and scare the crap out of ourselves. I think it was about a plane crash where everyone died.

45s I STILL have in the attic:

Brand New Key (Melanie)
I think I stole it from my aunt, who is just 5 years older than me...we had a big rivalry thing going on.

Dancing Queen (Abba)

I Think I Love You (David Cassidy)

Convoy (???)
OK, technically that one was my brother's, but I have it now...my ds listens to it! "What's a CB, mom?"

The "Star Wars" Theme

Mr. Jaws (Dickie ???Somebody...used to hear his stuff all the time on Dr. Demento)
a compilation of snippets of popular tunes that parodied the movie "Jaws"...we loved that record!

There are more, but these were the biggies.

Do you mean
Artist: Jim Carroll
Song: People Who Died

Quote:
Teddy sniffing glue, he was 12 years old
Fell from the roof on East Two-nine
Cathy was 11 when she pulled the plug
On 26 reds and a bottle of wine
Bobby got leukemia, 14 years old
He looked like 65 when he died
He was a friend of mine

Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends, and they died
etc....

skellbelle-:LOL-you've got some good ones...

kama-I know that one, but nope it's not it. I'll have to search.
It was really eerie, now I remember the guy singing was actually dead and had lost his legs, but he could still feel them, and have senses of being alive. Creepy, man!

Very obscure........ Timothy ?

ummmmm, more morbid songs, how about Seasons in the Sun .

We had joy we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the stars we could reach
Were just starfish on the beach

My favs:

Joy to the World 3 Dog Night

Chick a Boom

Tie a Yellow Ribbon Dawn

Bang a Gong T Rex

Without You Nilsson

Man, how I wish I still had them!!!

The one I DON'T have...

Is Delta Dawn (Helen Reddy)

"She's forty-one and her daddy still calls 'er 'baby'
All the folks 'round Brownsville say she's crazy...

Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on?
Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?
And did I hear you say he was a-meetin' you here today
To take you to his mansion in the sky-eye?"

Oh, how I loved that song...I had the original little "Dawn" doll (she's in the attic someplace, too...can't believe she's over 30 now!!!) and I always thought of her as "Delta Dawn".

Debbie Boone, "You Light up My Life"

Cher- I forget the main side, but the b side was a song called "He'll Never Know"

Olivia Newton John, "Zanedu (sp?)"

45's were a blast- where in the world ARE all those 45's???? Probably my mom's attic.....

omigosh, How did I forget Xanadu???
Had that one.

And
Donna Summer's "Dim All the Lights"
The Bay City Rollers' "Saturday Night"
The Village People's "YMCA"
Irene Cara's "Fame".

I had varied taste in music, what can I say?!

My dh does this thing that he thinks is ever so hilarious. He teaches my three old ds random cheezy songs just to annoy me. Cherokee People is one of them.

I love what ya'll are coming up with, and I wish I still had my 45s too. I remember singing most of these songs in elementary school music class--especially Seasons in the Sun, Delta Dawn, I am Woman, and the theme to Billy Jack. On the misty (?) morning after-her-her, one tin soldier rides away...

I had a Dawn doll, too.

Pretty surreal for a bunch of 7 year olds to be singing I am Woman.

edited to add: And I loved Three Dog Night and BTO!

I have a bunch of my moms old 45's that I use to listen to as a kid-most memorable were
Close to You-The Carpenters
People are Strange-The Doors
Walk on the Wildside
A Little Bit of Soap
Sooner or Later
Tears of a Clown
I'll have to scrounge them up, they are in the basement somewhere. They are all in this old 45 holder from the 50's-60's that have girls laying on the floor spinning records on the player. Theres a whole bunch more but I can't remember them right now. The 1st 45 my uncle Jr. ever bought me was Love is Alive. It was a toss up between that and Renegade. Cool Thread, it's fun to hear what we remember

I was only seven by the time the 70's came to a close, but I had my record player that looked like it was covered in jean material.

Some 45's that I still have:

Peaches and Herb- Reunited and Shake Your Groove Thing

Ring My Bell-Sister Sledge

Forever in Blue Jeans-Neil Diamond

Kiss-I Was Made For Loving You

The Wall-Pink Floyd

Anne Murray-A Love Song

Such a big difference between the early & mid 70's and the late-because of DISCO.

I think my favorite of all was Carole King's "It's too late" b side "I feel the earth move." I got it after I saw the movie Sarah T: Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic. I thought Linda Blair was the coolest when I was 7 or 8!

I had "Ballroom Blitz", man that was cool
Does anyone remember "Cut the Cake"!?
Sister and I were just singing "ChickABoom" to each other on the phone the other day.
I bought myself "I Write the Songs" by Barry Manilow

Here are 2 weird ones I remember..."Mr Jaws" and "Telephone Man" As a little girl I had NO idea there was innuendo in that song. Duh!!

My sister had all the Osmond 45s and I always tried to steal them. No luck though....
