Daily Check-In for 2/11

Right this minute my baby is torturing me. I am delirious from lack of sleep while she seems perfectly happy to stay awake and party all night. Perhaps it is because she slept all day while I spent today chasing my three year old around? I've fed her a million times. She is not hungry (this second anyway. That changes rapidly), she just wants to be up. She was throwing fits in my arms when I'd move her even one inch from her desired position so I decided to try the bouncer. She's tolerated that for about five minutes but she's about to blow as I type. I am so tired.

But she is lovely. Even in the midst of her sadistic game I can't help but kiss all over her cheeks and stroke her hair. I just wish I could do those things during daytime hours instead of at a time when I have to prop my eyelids open. There she goes again. My "break" is over.

Light contrax last night and more plug. How much is there? Sheesh. Today we have an appt at the hospital for a sono and a profile to make sure she's happy. I'm pretty positive she's happy. But I wonder if my fluid is low? You can feel each of her little toes when she shoves them against my side. DH plays the xylophone on them and she gets all wiggly and shoves me harder.

hadassah How's it going? Any new developments on a timeframe for bringing your baby home? I just read your post from yesterday. I hope things look up for you soon!

i feel for ya, muttix. i had a marty party all night long. by 7:30 the morning, i had logged 2.5 hours of sleep.

at least he's happy. and it's not forever.

Hi all, I've been reading your updates beanymama and hadassah and hope you both have good news for us very soon. I'm sitting here with Andrew in a sling, hoping he cooperates long enough for me to clean up and put on real clothes today. We have his first visit with the ped this afternoon, but I feel better as we got a home visit from a nurse yesterday and she said his weight was good. I'm pretty tired myself, but got a little am nap from Andrew, so that helped a lot. Mostly, I'm just trying to make sure my bottom heals ok, after my episiotomy and 3rd degree tear. Ugh! So far, it's ok, but it takes a lot to try to make time for 3-4 baths a day and trips to the bathroom that take forevvvvvver Anyway, I can't complain too much. He is absolutely adorable and so big for being 5 days old. At this rate, I can't even imagine the food bills when he gets older Have a great day everyone! dahlsk

Thanks to dh (who took Madeleine at 1030 when i was falling asleep with her in my arms), i logged 4 straight hours of sleep last night. But i'm finding i can't nurse her in bed, otherwise she'll have a massive spitup, either in bed or shortly thereafter. I'm sure it's not reflux - it doesn't seem to hurt her at all and she's not cranky unless she's hungry - so i guess i have to burp her more often and be careful not to overfeed her. And refrain from nursing her in bed for the time being.

We spent the weekend going to open houses at different schools (dd1 will be going to kindergarten next fall - 2009)...i come from a public school background (plus i'm a teacher - non-practicing 'cause i'm home with the kids), dh has attended only private schools. I knew we'd come to this impasse eventually...we've narrowed down the choice to French Immersion (public - dh's mom's family is from Quebec) or Catholic school. Wish us luck.

Muttix2 and HCM, I feel for you with the sleep deprivation. I'm shuddering a little as I'll be back alone with energetic, high needs dd#1 soon plus the 1 mo. old, and I'm concerned about how I will do with lack of sleep. I DO NOT have patience for dd#1 without sleep. (deep breath) It'll be fine. I hope you get some more sleep soon.

BeanyMama - : Come on baby! Go towards the light! I had to laugh when I read about dh playing xylophone on her toes. So cute!!!

My Kidlets - Dh and I have a similar dynamic--he went to public school, I went to catholic school (incl. an all girls school for high school), and he got his teaching degree to teach public high school. We are also prepping for schools for dd#1 for Fall 2009 and he is leaning towards an alternative school that has excellent extra curricular activities, among other things. I don't know what it's like in B.C. but our public schools in Ontario are underfunded right now. Dh won't even hear of catholic school (though they are better funded) and isn't interested in french immersion. It's amazing how polarizing our beliefs can be in this area, no? Good luck figuring out what you are going to do. I'll be interested to hear updates on it.

Longing for labor still.....

We had the sono and everything looks great- she's definitely fully developed and quite toasty. My fluid was fine, we can feel the xylophone toes b/c she is PACKED. I've got a pretty short torso, (I always carry wayyy out in front) and they estimated her around 10 lbs. Ah ha. Please come out NOW!! You could see the little rolls on her neck and her sweet round belly and I thought I would go crazy not being able to nuzzle the screen.

MW appt tomorrow- I'm hoping I see her tonight though

Restful sleepy vibes to the babies and I've been thinking about you all day, Hadassah- hope he's home soon.

aw, beanymama, i am so happy you got to see her so well in the sono- i'm sure it won't be long. and once she comes out, she will never go back inside! it'll be interesting to hear your report from the mw tomorrow.

here, our hot water heater is on the fritz. we have little spurts of hot water here and there, but there is no consistency, and you never know what your shower's gonna bring. it's been happening sporadically for a few weeks now, but the last few days have left us largely without any hot water. and, well, that blows. but i guess there are bigger things to complain about, we just don't really have a new hot water heater in the budget right now, so i don't know what the plan's gonna be.

i am happy to see the peeps starting up our thread in the lwab forum, but i hope we don't lose participation here. after all, beanymama is still cooking! we gotta hang out for her sake and cheer her on!

Ours was on the blink recently, turns out it was a blown fuse. Might that be it?

we think that one of the "elements" in the heater needs to be replaced, but we're no pros. i married an academe- we have a magnificent library, but we don't know much about hot water heaters.

but i don't think it's a fuse. did a new fuse fix your problem?

HCM - Yep, a fuse fixed our problem. I too married an academe and we have to hire out help to do pretty much anything around the house usually ("guy stuff" like screwing a baby gate into the walls, etc) though dh is starting to learn and get better. Bless him.

Get any more sleep after the Marty Party last night?

yeah, i love my braniac, too, and wouldn't trade him for anything. he's very handy, just not "mechanical," kwim?
