January 2008 Mamas! - Page 5

I loved that description, too.. I took a bath with my babe the other night and it was very peaceful.. it was so quiet and relaxing.
Then she started nursing and made those little piggy snorts and loud swallows.. which made me laugh

So cute! Killer leggings. Love all her hair!

I hafta get my butt in gear and put some pics on photobucket so I can share. One of these days.... :

Was at the midwife's office today for our parting interview. Dd2 is 7 wks and 10 lbs 15 oz. She was chunky at birth but is gaining in length a lot. She's outgrown the 0-3 mo. clothes due to her length and footsize! I'm going to miss my midwives so much. They were such amazing women. Siiiigh!

Over here we've all been sick with a cold and dh is on week 4 of bronchitis, now using a puffer. Lovely! I have been cooking pots of chicken soup and good healthy food, trying to get rest and make sure others get rest too. This will pass....this will pass. We're doing well. I'm slowly feeling like I can come into the world of the living now out of this early postpartum and it feels good. Spring is around the corner. Yay! Blessings to all!

Hi all, ds is 4 weeks tomorrow and he is doing well with weight, etc. and has his very wonderful moments but I'm afraid we're having much more of the evening fussiness. I wouldn't say colic just yet, but I'm getting worried/worn out as he will cry so hysterically for no reason that I can tell (just ate, just burped, being held, not let to cio, clean diaper, etc.).

I'm struggling as I can't "figure it out" so how do you guys handle crying that seems to be just for the sake of crying?

I had my last Midwife appointment on Monday too...I was really upset as I didn't want it to come to an end. After spending a whole year getting to know someone as special as her it is hard to say goodbye.

Peace weighs 12lbs!!!! She is soo chunky She has gained fast she was 7 lbs. 15 ounces at birth...

Hope you all feel better soon Emese'sMom !!

I did see The Business of Being Born last night and it was SOO good! Have any of you seen it?? It has inspired me to become a Doula I have pondered becoming one for a long time now and I feel this is one way I can stay close to pregnancy and birth without having to be pregnant myself.LOL

It can be very hard Mama. Dd was a very colicky baby and I know that support is really what got me through it. Dh, my mother,my SIL, they were there to help. It was still very rough, but at least I wasn't the only one holding dd for the evening crying sessions. Is your dp around during the evenings? If nothing is wrong and your baby is crying for the sake of crying, at least she can be held or worn by one of you. Can dp or some other family or friend come over in the evening, to give you a chance to eat dinner, shower and "recharge" your batteries?

Do remember that this will NOT go on forever and when it gets really bad, it will be over soon. It is not you, has nothing to do with how you are as a mama. We tried so many things with dd and no of them really worked, she just "grew out" of the crying spells. Not that this is easy to do, but try not to take it personally, some infants just go through this, as heartbreaking as it is sometimes.

Yeah, breastmilk! I love chubby ebf babies and how good they are at growing!

You are really lucky to have found such a super mw, I wish I had! I see one of the mw who delievered Nico in town and she doesn't even say hi! I was a little sad to leave the safety of the mw practice though, as I have had to see a GP for other health reasons. I guess I will see them for my next annual pap, lol.

I have also seriously considered becoming a doula, and I feel that I will...one day. Having young children seems hard, so I am thinking once they become school-age, I may follow that path. What do you plan on doing with your dc when you attend a birth?
Well I have thought about that for a while I have been thinking of ordering THIS and then taking my time studying and reading and not rushing into anything right away. Then maybe as the baby is older and I can leave her for longer periods with DH or family then I will attend the recommended births etc...

Does that sound good ? Or should I wait longer? Anyone here a Doula ?

WE HAVE SMILES!!!!!
Yea! O has started actually being awake for more than 2 min, smiling, and kinda cooing this week - 6 weeks was really a mile stone for her.

Here are the pictures of my 4 girls and my niece we had done 2 weeks ago. Can you tell which one is not mine . When we are together, dh always sings, "Which one of these is not like the other"

A friend of mine is a doula and she has a 2.5 y.o. and an older girl. Her mother lives two doors over so she can leave her kids with her mom, but she resumed doing births after the youngest was 2 y.o. Sounds like a good idea not to rush into it because you need to make sure you have supports in place. Enjoy the study journey though! I want to eventually take courses too. :

Jess - love those pics of your girls. Can you set a privacy setting on photobucket? TIA

We went to get weighed yesterday. I don't know why, but I was surprised to see the scale say 12lbs!

We also had a REAL smile on Wednesday. Absolutely melted my heart! Made the late nights / early mornings totally worth it. Now we just have to do it for Daddy.

hey mamas

i've typed out two lengthy posts since my last post and each time i went to post it my computer froze and away went the post. hopefully this one will stick.

baschabad - i loved the montage! sooo beautiful .

naturemama - the dedication dress is unreal. you do amazing work.

hlnmommy - i have a spitter also. dd1 wasn't, so it's new for me. faith spits up, and projectiles, fairly frequently. i have to burp her after about one full minute of nursing before we continue. i let forth a lot fairly quickly, so our nursing sessions aren't very long. if we have a long one and i space out, it's all over us.

and yay for smiles !!!

zahirakids - i too love the leggings. and peace is beautiful .
we had our last mw appt last friday and faith was just about 12 lbs also. crazy cuz she was 8 8 at birth and 8 14 at 4 weeks after the o2 ordeal - so basically a 3 lb gain in 2 weeks. she's making up for lost time, apparently.
i think your doula aspirations are wonderful!!! and i think the distance learning program is just right for having a child this age. and i think it's the perfect time - you can take your time, learn, research, learn some more, and see what the next step should be exactly when you are ready. have you checked out the aspiring midwives thread in finding your tribe? i think you might find it really beneficial. not sure if there is an aspiring doulas thread, but maybe.
i'm so grateful for our small, tight-knit community here. i can stay close with our midwife - not lose touch.
she's showing BOBB at her place next friday. i'm very excited. 2 weeks after that i'm going to start training with her. classes 2x/month for now and attending births/going deeper when i feel ready. not sure if i ever want to be primary, but i know i will love the training and the knowledge alone can be such a positive addition to my ayurvedic practice. right now i see myself using the knowledge more for prenatal and postpartum care. we shall see!

emese'smom - faith is outgrowing her 0-3 clothes also. such a little chunk . she doesn't seem chunky, but she's a heck of a lot bigger than her big sis at this age.
(and i found the answer to my food question here )
i truly hope your dh feels well very soon.

dahlsk - so sorry about the fussiness and crying . i hope you can find what it is that your little one is struggling with, for both of you. and if it's just the incarnation process, i hope this stage passes soon.

jess - your girls are absolutely beautiful !

i took faith (and laurel and friends with kids) to the hot springs pool today. she loved the water!
we are all exhausted after playing all day at the pool after being out at the ashram all night for shivaratri (special holiday...chanting all night). the kids could all sleep in the temple, but they ran around dancing for hours first. and mama is tuckered out right now. i wore faith and she loved it. she's so mellow though, i can't imagine her really being unhappy about too much. thank god.

lots of love to you all
and happy new moon :

River your girls are so beautiful!! And you got BIG smiles.

With sister

Cutie

The spitting is getting better I have found that if I pop him off to burp after i feel the letdown is under control he doesnt spitup as much. I think we are having a growthspurt, ds is wanting to eat like every hour!! We dont have a wbv till the 27th so Im not sure hat he weighs now but we are out of newborn clothes and dipers. 0-3 clothes are still a little big though so ???

Not been on here too much now that I'm momma to 3!
We are doing well and I'm happy to see that all of you are as well.

Those of you considering doula work~ good luck and I think that is awesome. We will take birth back that way. I've been considering post-partum doula work myself.

I have a question of you all with older kiddos too... My oldest has said, "I need more momma time" and she is right. How do you all meet that need in your homes?
TIA,
Chris
