talk to me about lupron

So, it looks like a frozen (donor embryos) cycle is in the near future. Talk to me about lupron? I had hoped that I could convince the clinic to do a "natural" cycle, that we could just do the transfer at ~1dpo and support with progesterone, but it sounds like that's just something that works in the wonderful world of Katia. So, lupron it is. I'm looking for info on side effects, long term effects, how they can be mitigated...

Thanks.
Katia

I was ok doing a non-natural cycle and I didn't really know anything about Lupron before I started taking it but I really hated it. I was SO tired and really hormonal and b-tchy on it. When I started the estrogen patches along with it, I think that helped.

So...I got through it but I really did hate it while I was on it.

I wonder if acupuncture would have helped. I did it during my fresh cycle and didn't really notice side effects to the drugs (but I was different ones) and I haven't had acu during the FET and have had more side effects. It could be a coincidence but it has made me wonder.

Some people take Lupron and suffer no side effects. Honest! Others are not so lucky. I did seven cycles with lupron and had 5 cycles that made me go crazy. It's frequently referred to as "Loopy Lupron." The worst side effect for me were the headaches that were on par with my worst migraines. Basically, it wipes out your estrogen and simulates menopause so you can get the hot flashes (check), sweats (check), headaches (check check), mood swings (check), etc. that are associated with menopause.

As far as long term consequences or side effects are concerned... call me Pollyanna, but I never truly worry about those because with ART cycles you're on Lupron for such a short period of time before they reintroduce estrogen into your system that the warnings aren't applicable. If you read the research studies about the long term side effects of lupron, they're based on studies done on women being treated for endometriosis and other conditions requiring long term (i.e., 6+ months of continuous lupron) and men who are on lupron for prostate cancer treatment, not women who are on lupron for 10days to 2weeks at a much lower dosage than discussed in the studies.

I'm currently on Lupron as part of an IVF cycle and I guess I'm one of the lucky ones- I've noticed almost no side effects. A little bit of sweating/hot flashes, but nothing more. I was WAY more insane and moody on the birth control pills that I had to take at the beginning of this process!
