How about making some granny squares and then fill in with your scraps of other yarn in solid colors. Some of the neatest granny square blankets are the crazy colored ones!

wow, i feel so lame! i totally wear hats and scarves made out of acrylic! maybe i'm just too cheap to get better yarn? and, um, i don't want to say anything, but .... i have a reversible rainbow/blue-green variegated acrylic hat. i guess i wouldn't be invited over to any of your houses.

You are not alone, I like acrylic too, makes very affordable warm long lasting afghans, my sisters love the scarves I have made too. I can't afford to buy only natural yarns so instead of not making things for people I use acrylic (and I also love the huge assortment of colors available!)

Shhhh, don't tell but I also love working with the cheap cotton that you can get at JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby...and I don't mean the organic stuff, just the cheap $1.50 balls of cotton.

LOL! I'd probably rush out to buy fancy natural fibers in a bright variegated colorway and copy your hat

Omg, my favorite instant yarn gratification is Peaches and Cream. Cheap and all sorts of fun colors And they sell it in the little corner drug store in our small town.

I am a huge fan of obnoxious contrasts and bright colors- just not acrylic

I am the anti-pastel

I love acrylic yarns as much as any other, but only if I can play with it before I buy it and I enjoy the fabric. I am making a sweater out of bulky homespun atm in a deep purple color and every few rows I have to just brush my face with the finished part, because it feels so nice. I have about a dozen skeins of wool atm too that I bought and then set aside the second I felt how nice this stuff feels once its knit up

Now to somehow finish this sweater before the temp hits 100 here.

I'm involved with a group called All Crafts 4 Charity...you might want to contact them...they are always looking for donations of yarn and such for our monthy projects...I think there is a lapghans for nursing homes project coming up...I'm sure it would make up lovely squares for them.

Here is a link if you are interested:

If it's the Mexicana Red Heart, I use that all the time in my toys:

Rainbow yarn makes for a lot of fun toys, and washable acrylic is really good for small children (also good for infants who might be allergic to wool or whose mums are).

Parking meter cozies??

Seriously, though, donate it. I know it would be appreciated in almost any senior center around here.
