he used the gait trainer!!!!

We've been working for weeks to get him to try and use a gait trainer so that they could evaluate his legs while "walking" and today he did it!!!!!!!
He was yelling and screaming in it, then suddenly noticed that one of the work room doors in the hall was open. It's like he realized all the sudden that he can wander around and check things out in it! His left leg is considerably stronger than his right, so if no one is steering him he kind of spins to where he wants to go. They guided him and watched his gait. The muscles in his legs that showed denervation on the EMG don't work right. His feet flip over and he drags the tops of his feet along. He's always done this, but we thought maybe it was just that he wasn't supported well enough or something. But the two therapists got a really great look at his gait. So we did all the paperwork for DAFO's and got the script from our ped, and should get casted this week or next (we were supposed to get casted last week, but he was sick. it was good in a way cause this way they got to see him stepping).
But all that to say I'm soooooooo excited that he walked in the gait trainer!!!!!!!!!!! and now I want one, lol.

Cool! So he's going to get new shoes and walkies. Awesome. So if you get a trainer then he'd be all.over.the.place. At least, in a circular manner.... But at least he'd be upright and not putting crumbs into his mouth.

no kidding! We're not getting the gait trainer yet, just use the one at therapy. I think they want to see what he does when he gets the DAFO's. I've heard some people who's kids get them and start walking the next day. maybe that'll be the case and we won't need one. But if he needs one still, I really like it better than a wheelchair, and so does he! Looks like a little ballerina twirling all over the place.

Yahoo! How cool.

We've been missing our AFO appt. for weeks now. I'm still trying to figure out a cute pair of shoes to commit to. It's just so hard to know - should it be the funky red patent leather combat boots, or the sassy hot pink ones. :
