had my US, its a girl with some markers

had my US today, its a GIRL!! I am SHOCKED, i 'knew' it was a boy. of course i am tickled, (I have a boy) but still shocked i have to repicture everything in my head, IYKWIM??

BUT< there were some markers from trisomy 18 and/or 21. there was a tiny cyst on the choroid plexus area of the brain and the nuchal fold was slightly thick. we immediately went for a level III US and that again showed the same findings as the first. the heart looks great as does the abdomen, head size, femur length and nose. so i had the quad screen drawn and we are just waiting to see what kind of odds that gives me before we decided to do an amnio or not. (you should to understand i HAVE to know all available information, it is absolutely imperative for me) i am trying not to freak out, doing a pretty good job. I am 24 yrs old with NO family history of any sort of chromosomal defects on either side of our families.

so, back to the good news, its a GIRL, i need new clothes!

Emily-
Congratulations on the baby girl! How nice for you!
Sorry that the extra worry was thrown in there-- but hoping everything will turn out well.
You know U/S are notorious for false positives (one of the main reasons I have decided not to get one).
Sounds like you are holding up well under the circumstances-- keep it up!

I hope all your results are negative for bad stuff. I had the blood work and had a high percentage for DS so we just had the extensive u/s to check it out. Things look fine and they could not find any soft markers, but it is still very early and they could not see the heart well at all. So we have another u/s in four weeks to check out the heart as well as recheck for soft markers.

I guess, all I can offer is that there are many "false" finds.

Congratulations on your baby girl!

After my nuchal scan I was told I had an 80% chance of the baby having one of the trisomies or some other problem... the CVS came back normal.

Nuchal measurements can't be used to assess risk past 13 weeks, anyway.

CONGRATULATIONS on your little girl!! I know she will absolutely gorgeous and perfect no matter what any test says.

Good luck and remember what others on here have said, the u/s is not the final authority and is bad about false positives.

You have such a wonderful, positive attitude, though! Happy girl-shopping!
