Okay, I'm "blaming" this on GD... I very seldom tell (19 mo) DS that he can't say no to me, I try to validate his feelings and don't give him kisses if he says no, etc.
Sunday, DS, DM and I went to Goodwill. DS was running around and had just run away from me to DM and on past. DM went to pick him up just as a creepy man walked up. DS went into the cart, but creepy-guy walked right up to the cart, held out his dirty grimy hand and kept telling DS to give him "five." (DM was in shock and didn't do anything, and I was trying to get across the store as quickly as possible to run interference, if necessary.)
DS knows how to give five, and isn't usually afraid of friendly strangers. But he looked at this guy, shook his head and said "no" very clearly. I walked up just as he did this and my DM finally said DS "doesn't like strangers" so the guy left.
But I was sooo proud of DS! He knew what he wanted and it wasn't to interact with this guy... and he made his feelings known!!
