Caleb and Molly Updates

Caleb: he had his OT eval at the hospital and it was deemed that he does need OT, so she is submitting the report to the insurance company ASAP. I am glad for that. A really really really really really HUGE thing happed at the appointment. He tried pudding. You.Have.No.Idea.How.Huge.This.Is!! He didnt swallow it, and wanted nothing more to do with it, and it was just on his tongue, but she put some on his tongue and he tasted it... and then he did it!! He said no more, and didnt swallow it, but it was semi-in his mouth. He also had his ARD meeting and he was approved for Preschool Programs for Children with Disabilities (ppcd) and he will be starting that on Monday. I am super happy with the way things are going.

Molly was diagnosed with asthma... she got her first neb treatment today which wen HORRIBLE. Shes also going to be on singulair. If this does not get rid of her cough (we are 98% sure it will) then she is getting a pulmo ref. because chronic coughing isnt something a baby (or anyone) should have to live with.

Thats all I have to say at the moment, my daughter is crying for the tit :P

PUdding!! Go Caleb!! That's awesome! What kind of OT will he get?

The neb wont' be so horrible after a few more days or so. When I give nebs to Mark, we read books or watch a movie, and he's learned to hold the cup/mask on his own, so he feels more in control. Something to also remember is that the mask doesn't have to be slap up against their face, but as long as the med is where they're inhaling it well, they're still benefiting. With Jeff, he's my 6 month old, I just follow his face around as he bobs and weaves and tries to escape my lap. With Mark, he's now often sitting on his own in the laundry basket while he watches a movie or fiddles with cars during a treatment. It's scary for them at first, but they do get used to it pretty quickly. Mark even started asking for it once he realized that he felt better after using it.

Yay Caleb!!

I agree that over time the nebulizer gets better--at least a little. By way of encouragement Caleb's asthma began as a chronic cough too. Singulair has been really helpful and after we got past that initial inflammation (which took a while) we don't have to use the nebulizer very often as long as he's on Singulair.

thank you for the tips about the neb treatments! She needed a treatment this morning and I got it all ready for her, only to find that hubby got the singulair only from walgreens :P So she got that, and will need to wait for the treatment when he gets home, this coughing is the worst!

The albuterol (??) will really help w/the coughing, although you might need to use it a few times before you see and hear real benefit.
