Did you like the training program?

Do you have freedom in how you teach your own classes?

Where do you teach? What do you charge?

What do you think are the Pros and Cons of this organization and its classes?

Anything else I should consider? - Thanks so much!

naturegirl, you might want to check out the thread below "Pros and Cons of Childbirth Educator Organizations"...someone from CAPPA posted there, and I'm hoping others will, too, and then we might be able to make it a sticky!

Did you like the training program? Unfortunately I didn't like the training program. I also trained and certified through ICEA and in my eyes the CAPPA training was very, very weak!!! There was a lot of information lacking, and I really did not feel prepared to teach when Ifinished the program. Fortunately for me my background is in education so I knew how to teach, but for someone who has had no experience I think they would really be floundering.

Do you have freedom in how you teach your own classes? Yes

Where do you teach? What do you charge? I teach privately and in a hospital - however the hospital did not accept my CAPPA training and I was hired on basically because I have a masters degree in education and was working on my ICEA certification.

What do you think are the Pros and Cons of this organization and its classes? The pros are that if you are a self learned and super motivated they have several areas you can certify in. The cons - for the average person their programs lack and one needs to do extra learning to be efficient in their knowlege.

Anything else I should consider? Personally I think an in person training (whoever you go through) is more beneficial because you have the knowledge of the instructor as well as the classmates. I also think that trainings vary by the trainer, so finding a very knowledgeable trainer with experience in her area is essential.

Not really. Teaching comes naturally to me so if I didn't want to become certified, I could have put together classes on my own without their training.

Yes.

Where do you teach? What do you charge?
Mostly privately. I've only had one group class so far and I use our church's office space (it's just like a retail-type space and it's the offices only). I charge $150 for 8 weeks.

What do you think are the Pros and Cons of this organization and its classes?
Pros: You can decide what and how you want to teach. Cons: 1.) If you don't have a background in teaching, it's going to be harder putting together a curriculum. 2.) Not really nationally recognized. You may have a harder time teaching in a hospital, if you have that desire.

Anything else I should consider? - Thanks so much!
