Can I knit a market bag out of wool?

I have some peacefleece wool that I wanted to make a bag out of, but then I just tried pulling on it to see how strong it would be and I could easily pull it in two pieces... if I felt it would it be strong enough or should I stick to man-made yarns and cotton blends for market bags?

I would definitely recommend felting any bag knit from wool. Wool is soooo easily split and rejoined, which is why those wonderful string bags are cotton.

I think a French Market bag or the like would be great!

Wool is pretty elastic, so I don't think it would make a great sturdy bag unless you felt it a lot. Cellulose fibers like cotton, linen, or hemp would be better suited for carrying heavy items.
