Hello Mama's
I just wanted to announce the birth of our 4th child. My labor started very early Monday morning, contractions every 15 minutes through the night. They were strong, but so far apart. I checked my cervix at about 2 or 3 and it was still about 1cm, posterior and I felt frustrated! I got back in bed and dozed between contractions, and then about 5 got up again. I rechecked my cervix and was 3-4 75%, so I decided to take a shower. When I got out I called my midwife. She said with this being my 4th and the birth center being 45 minutes away we should think about heading in. I told her we would get there by 8am at the latest. So, we ran around the house getting things together (I was leaving a sick kid with grandma and grandpa, we found out later in the day he had strep throat).
Anyway, we got to the hospital and the midwife met us. I was 5-6 and 90%, after getting a reactive fetal heart tracing my DH and I walked. I was coping really well and able to talk and joke in between contractions. I kept remembering Ina May and the discussion of the cervix doing what the jaw does so I tried to just let it hang open and be relaxed with each contraction. My midwife checked me about 1.5 hours after being there and I hadn't made muh of a change so we discussed breaking the bag of waters. I agreed, and then found mec stained fluid. We planned a water birth, so now this was out.
We continued to walk and things became more intense. By 11:50 I was fully dilated and began to bear down. I didn't really have much of an urge to push but wanted it over with. I was trying to push on the birthing stool and it felt really awkward to me so I got back in bed and pushed, her heart rate dropped and I became panicky (keep in mind I am a former L&D nurse) I am listening to her heart rate and the midwife is doing scalp stimulation and trying to hold the monitor....man did it hurt...then they were putting o2 on me, I felt like I was suffocating. I told the midwife, I will hold the monitor, call the Doc and have him put the vac of and get the baby out!!! Well, I mustered up enough strength in the mean time to push her out, and she was born at 12:14. Labor was great, but delivery was brutal! I had a teeny tear that they left alone and it turned out that Audrey had a cord around her shoulder. When it was all over I felt like I could never do it again! Now....well I am thinking that over but DH says no way, this is it!
We are all doing well, her brothers and sister are in love! She is a great nurser and we are happy to be home.
Here is the link to some of our first photos! DS1 had not been able to come to the birth center due to his strep throat so we do not have any of him with her yet...
