Yes, I imagine there are many, many other beneficial components in breastmilk that are yet to be known.

Finally something that the formula companies can't even pretend to replace! Or...er...not in any vaguely acceptable way.

That is seriously cool, though. That, couple with my kid trying to nurse several times today, makes me really sad that I'm all dried up. But, *pbttttthhhhhhhht* to the certain someone who compared my milk to refined sugar.

That's the kind of validation I needed today. I'm nursing 2 kids and I'm 13 weeks pregnant, and it's getting really tough. My body is just exhausted. I'm SO glad I read this. . . what a great reminder what I'm doing for my kids.

Too cool. I had to copy it and forward to all my family and other moms I know.

Wow. just wow.

This really truly seems like the "answer" to me. That is, a major major reason why breastmilk is so_much_better, why raw cows milk is so_much_better, etc., etc.

Stems cells - yicks! I mean it is literally giving new, fresh life to our babies every time they nurse. Awesome.

Just awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"His team cultured cells from human breast milk and found a population that tested positive for the stem cell marker, nestin. Further analysis showed that a side population of the stem cells were of multiple lineages with the potential to differentiate into multiple cell types. This means the cells could potentially be “reprogrammed” to form many types of human tissue."

Bekka,
Thanks for including this quote. I missed this part the first time I read the article.

I re-read it and learned something I had wondered about:
"Further research on immune cells, which have also been found in breast milk and have already been shown to survive the baby’s digestive process, could provide a pathway to developing targets to beat certain viruses or bacteria."
