After seeing my Midwife today I need to be upping my protein to keep my blood sugar more level. I hate eating first thing in the AM so I'm going to try for a glass of soy milk and see how that works.. I wanted to ask you guys what you eat, though!

I make oatmeal with chocolate soymilk! My iron was a little low, and oatmeal helps with that.

I eat a bowl of oatmeal and 3 sausage links...

I usually have eggs of some sort and whole wheat toast (I love toast!): Sometimes, a few times a week, I have sardines on toast, because I love sardines, and love the benefits from them. I have oatmeal and walnuts some mornings, but less so these days.

Today I had hardboiled eggs on toast, milk and some prunes... for obvious late pregnancy reasons. :

I had a bagel with cream cheese. Bad, I know.

I have a hard time with protein in the morning.

Well lets see... for my first breakfast (at 2:30am) I had 2 fried eggs and toast with jam... then for my second (7:30am), I had oatmeal with strawberries. And somewhere in there I also ate a donut with my tea.

nuts are a great way to get protein in there though. My usual routine (before these sleepless nights) has been granola packed with all sorts of goodness like almonds, raisins, sunflower seeds, and bran. Eggs are also a comfort food for me.

Yeah, we get these awesome farm fresh eggs here. They are so awesome. They make regular eggs taste like Styrofoam.

I almost always eat leftovers for breakfast, because I don't like most typical breakfast foods.

I'm not much for heavy protein in the am either.

I have found I enjoy a fruit smoothie. The yogurt has more protein than plain milk. I can also throw in 2 tbls of wheat germ in to up the protein a bit more.

I usually make mine with about 6 strawberries, a banana, about a cup of yogurt, a 1/4 cup or so of milk, 2 tbls of wheat germ, and a few tbls of chocolate milk powder (I have been craving the chocolate)

She suggested a smoothie, but alas, we don't have a blender and can't afford one that would hold up to smoothie making.

Bummer. If you wanted you could eat a cup of yogurt with sliced fruit and stir in wheat germ to up the protein. It would be as easy as drinking a smoothie though.

does a chicken patty at 1pm count?

I usually have a cup of yogurt with eggs of some sort for my first breakfast. Then about an hour later I have a glass of milk with whey protein powder to really get off to a good start for the day. I can actually stir this with a fork or spoon to get it blended well, the powder is our local co-op brand and so much yummier than other powders I have tried. For most of this pregnancy I have avoided soy as much as possible because of the whole phyto-estrogen controversy thing, and I am kinda afraid of soy after living in the midwest for a while surrounded by GMO soy.

OOOH Teeny - me too! I love, love, love, love, love toast! I go between english muffins and whole grain toast most mornings AND evenings!

For breakfast, I usually do cereal with fresh fruit, a whole fruit smoothie with some milk and yogurt or oatmeal. I do try to be conscious of buying things with the highest protein content available since I probably don't get enough. My english muffins have 5g a piece and my toast has 5-6g a slice. The dairy from the smoothie is pretty high between the whole milk yogurt and the milk (I can't do soy here ). The cereal...well, it's usually less protein, but it does have milk and about 5-6g per serving (and I try to have two!). I know I still don't get nearly the 80-100g/day they suggest but I do what I can . Oooh, I did go through a breakfast sandwich spurt and that was great. I get nitrate free ham at the local deli and had that with cheese, an egg and a whole grain english muffin.......mmmmmmm.

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, can you tell ?

it varies but usually oatmeal (with bananas or blueberries and walnuts), kashi cereal and rice milk, or pancakes and vegan sausage. once a week, vegan sausage breakfast burritos or tofu scramble.

with a small glass of OJ and a shot of chlorphyll and hot RRL tea.

I'll have to try that. Never had wheat germ before.
