how to cite internet references?

HELLO!

I need some (urgent) help on citing internet references. How exactly do you do it? I'm writing an essay for english class. What kind of sites are acceptable for use? Does one cite the sources at the end in a works cited list or are are they cited in parenthesises after the information! Please help! I didn't realize I was so out of touch with this and my essay is due tomorrow!!! YIKES

I'm curious how you ended up citing an online souce. I'm just seeing this question now. I must be old-school because I would advise not using online sources at all. I would imagine that they are still frowned upon, but perhaps I'm wrong and out-of-date.

What is the current academic standard?
